Monday August 9th 2021

09:00 At last some of our tomatoes are starting to go red, which is nice.

Were our tomatoes red? Well they are now, at last,
some of them anyway (as showcased by Lois)

10:00 Two guys ring our doorbell and ask me if we need any logs, because "somebody said you have a wood burner". I say "No, we haven't", and he explains that he and his mate are felling a tree around the corner and they've got a lot of logs that they can offer free to neighbours.

Then he appears to "suddenly" notice our cherry-tree, commenting that it's "in a dangerous condition". But this turns out to be due to what he identifies as "honey fungus" on one of the big branches. He offers to remove the "affected" branch for £85, so that the fungus doesn't "spread to the rest of the tree".

our cherry tree as it looks later today

I wouldn't be able to tell honey fungus from a honey sandwich, but it's useful that we've got our own regular gardener, Mark - and it's easy to just say that I'll ask Mark to look at it. Lois thinks the tree looks perfectly healthy to her. So I'm assuming that the whole thing this morning is some sort of scam.

these wise old eyes can't tell honey fungus from a honey sandwich
but they can smell a scam a mile off haha!
[eyes don't normally detect smells, surely?! - Ed]

What a crazy world we live in !!!!!

11:00 Lois and I go for a walk on the local football field. We give the scamming tree-fellers [pronounced "tree fellahs"] a wide berth and make our way down the road to the field.

The developers are unfortunately pressing ahead with the building of some awful blocks of flats on the "extra bit" of the football field.

Those bastards !!!!

We make our way over to the "extra bit" of the field, to see how the developers are getting on with the ugly blocks of flats they've been plotting to erect. Ugh !!!!

Those bastards!!!! [You've said that once  already! - Ed]

19:30 Lois slips into the dining-room to take part in her sect's weekly Bible Seminar on zoom. I settle down on the couch and watch Episode 8 of the 3rd season of "The Killing", the Danish crime series, which Lois doesn't like.

The plot of this series is that shipping magnate Robert Zeuthen's young daughter Emilie gets kidnapped by somebody who at first seems to have a general grudge against Robert's company, Zeeland, but later it turns out that he's annoyed about an earlier case: the murder two and a half years ago of his biological daughter, Louise, who was living at a Zeeland-supported children's home; the kidnapper is annoyed (to put it mildly) that the murder of his daughter was labelled back then as "suicide" by the authorities.

Simples!

I'm watching in a much more relaxed manner now, because I know it's no good trying to guess who the guilty people are. In each episode characters that up till now have seemed totally upright and trustworthy, suddenly fall under suspicion, so it's no good the viewer trying to predict anything, if you ask me! [Who do you think is asking you! - Ed]

Tonight's it's the turn of two formerly-trusted close aides to suddenly appear to have done something suspicious.

 (1) Prime Minister Kristian Kamper's female "Dominic Cummings", Karen, who's obviously got a thing for her boss, because she wasn't pleased when she spied him having sex on his desk with the Centre Party Leader, Rosa Lebech, during so-called "coalition negotiations". My god!

close prime-ministerial aide Karen peeps through a crack in the door
as  her boss, Prime Minister Kamper, and Centre Party leader Lebech
have sex on the PM's desk during their so-called "coalition talks" - my god!!!

What a crazy world they live in on the Danish political scene!

The second shock new suspect:  (2) Shipping magnate Robert Zeuthen's close aide (Niels Reinhardt). Star detective Sarah Lund finds a photo of Reinhardt with children from the Zeeland Children's Home, a photo that includes the murdered girl Louise from the case of 2 years ago. Fishy or what haha !!!!

Inspector Sarah Lund finds a photo of Reinhardt at the
Zeeland-supported children's home, where Louise, (bottom right, holding Danish flag)
was murdered two and a half years ago - fishy, or what???!!!!!

Only two episodes to go, now !!!!!

21:00 Lois emerges from her zoom session and we watch one of our favourite TV quizzes, Only Connect, which tests lateral thinking.

Well, what can we say? We get lots of answers right, but then so do the teams, damn their eyes !!!!!

I do get one of the rows of one of the "Wall" questions right. The contestants don't spot that 4 of the terms in the wall are frequently preceded by the adjective "political": i.e. "football", "science", "correctness" and "prisoner".

[I don't think that's much to be proud of after 30 minutes' viewing. Time for you to retire from TV quizzes! - Ed]

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!
