Wednesday August 18th 2021

10:30 Third and last full day of our visit to our daughter Alison and her family in Headley, Hampshire.

Today, a visit with Alison and grandson Isaac to the ruined Waverley Abbey, a casualty of Henry VIII's dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century.

First we have to negotiate with the builders currently renovating the family's crumbling Victorian mansion to move a van or two so we can drive out of the property. My god!

it's "van city" outside Alison's house - what madness !!!!!

We drive to Waverley Abbey.

the view from the passenger seat as Ali negotiates a difficult
right turn on to the Farnham-Godalming road

we approach the ruined abbey past the pond
where the monks used to farm fish

eventually the ruined abbey comes into view in the distance

we enter the old abbey precincts - a sign warns us to beware
of cows with calves, but we don't see any luckily !!!

we stop to read the instructional display signs

I think these used to be the cloisters possibly

I showcase a sign giving
important details about the South Transept

I think this is the ruined monks' dormitory
- unusually, at ground level in this single-storey building

12:00 We get home and watch the release on to social media of performances by two of Rock School London's youngest vocalists, our 11-year-old grandson Isaac and a 12-year-old girl called Jess.

Isaac's co-student Jess opens the show

...and Isaac closes it

Well done Isaac! What a performer !!!!
