Saturday May 6th 2023

08:00 Lois and I get up in a good mood. We went to bed with one last night, and the mood is still with us, which is nice!

You see, we did very well last night on both the Popmaster Quiz and the intellectually more prestigious Eggheads Quiz in next week's Radio Times, with a bit of help from our daughter Sarah, who knew some of the popmaster questions about more recent decades, which are a total blank to Lois and me, needless to say. We score 8/10 on both quizzes, which is unprecedented.

09:00 We start watching the Coronation on TV. Our daughter Sarah, with husband Francis and their 9-year-old twins Lily and  Jessica, staying with us for a few days after their return from Australia after 7 years, can only watch the beginning bit because they've got to view a rental property that they're keen on later this morning. But they can see the highlights tonight.

On the TV they say that it'll be only people in their 80's and 90's who will remember the last coronation in 1953, which is a crazy thing to say - Lois and me are "youngsters" in our late 70's, and we remember it. We saw it on TV thank you very much!

Early on, we see some foreign dignitaries and representatives - Jill Biden....

Spot the former Prime Ministers: Cameron, Brown, Blair and Major....no sign yet of Johnson or Truss yet...

Wait a minute! Aha!

Lois has popped out for a minute, and misses Liz Truss. Some people may have "just popped out", or maybe just blinked, and missed Liz's entire premiership haha!

Amongst others, Justin Trudeau of Canada arrives.

As the golden coach leaves Buckingham Palace, it's time to brush the girls' hair - Sarah and family have to impress the owners and agents at the rental property they're going to view, and convince them that they're all good citizens and not vandals and thugs haha!

Lois gives the girls two of the little Union Jacks that we bought last week in the Warners-Morrisons supermarket.

Prince Harry enters Westminster Abbey - all on his own, with no Meghan.

Poor Harry !!!!!

on his own at the back there, it's Harry.
Poor Harry !!!!!

11:00 The Royal Mail parcels van stops outside our house with the Coronation mugs that Lois ordered for each of our 5 grandchildren. Just in time!

The ceremony continues...

Penny Mordaunt MP from the Privy Council, arrives to hold Charles's sword, and before long the media start saying that she "steals the show" with her blue "Anne Boleyn look". What madness !!!!!

13:00 Lois and I have lunch and toast the King and Queen.

The show ends with the Red Arrows aerial display that never fails to delight, I think I can say with confidence!

14:30 Well, all over for another few years then, although not as much as 70 years before the next time, one would imagine!

When Sarah and family come back, Sarah says that sadly they didn't really like the rental property that they went to view today - "under-furnished and overpriced" is the verdict, which is a pity. And the real killer is that there's only one big bedroom - too big, actually - plus one small bedroom - too small - that would only take one bed.

Luckily Sarah and Francis have got another property to view on Wednesday, so let's hope it's a case of "better luck next time".

19:00 We watch the "Coronation Highlights" show, and the twins' Barbie dolls and cuddly toys watch with us, which is heart-warming!

part off the audience in our house for
the "Coronation Highlights" show - how heart-warming!

We're sure it's an experience those toys will never forget! On the other hand, they won't remember it either, so it's very much "swings and roundabouts", we suspect!

22:00 And how nice that everything went so well today in London, we think, as we climb the stairs and hop into bed. After all, when you think about it, there was an awful lot that could have gone wrong, but it all turned out all right, didn't it, which is a nice thought to go to bed on!

Zzzzzzzzzzz!!!!
