Lois and I are just about to go away for a few days, we ought to start packing soon, although we keep putting it off. And Lois needs a comfortable bra, so that'll give us an excuse not to start packing just yet.
The search for a bra with no snags to it is a never-ending one - if you wear bras yourself you'll probably agree. Plus buying one for Lois today will give me the opportunity to hang around in a department store lingerie area once again, desperately trying to avoid the suspicious glances of other shoppers.
I loiter suspiciously in the M&S lingerie department trying not look interested
in either the underwear or in the women looking at the underwear
Our possessions never like it when we tell them we're going on a trip. Lois's bras are becoming "difficult and awkward", she says. And the windscreen wipers on our Honda Jazz packed up on Monday, and yesterday my slippers became more or less unwearable. But we're fighting back - we had the windscreen wipers replaced on Tuesday, and today in the local Marks & Spencer's department store I get some new slippers. and also Lois gets the new bra she needs - a "going away" bra.
my old slippers, the ones that decided yesterday
to become unwearable, completely out of the blue
the new slippers I buy in M&S today
The new slippers aren't my favourite colour but they're the only ones that I see today that are comfortable. I take a size 10 (UK) but I've got rather broad feet, so usually I go for a Size 11 (UK).
We come home, and have lunch, and then we go upstairs for a shower, followed by a nap in bed.
Unfortunately, while we're in bed, the UK's most unreliable delivery service chooses to try and deliver a couple of books that we ordered - Sue is the local Evri courier, and we've crossed swords with her before. But we decide that today we're not going to get dressed and race downstairs - Sue never waits long before she gets back in her van anyway, so why not stay in bed - that's what we decide, anyway - call us reckless pleasure-seekers if you like haha! We'll just give her a one-star rating again, and be content with that.
16:00 The sun's shining so we have our tea and sinful digestive biscuit with a thick coating of Nutella - call us reckless pleasure-seekers if you like haha ! [You've done that one already just a couple of lines up! - Ed]
we have our Earl Grey and nutella-digestive on the patio
21:00 We wind down with the latest episode in this incredibly long-running sitcom, Not Going Out, now in its 13th season.
In this scene, Lee pays a visit to his daughter Mollie's school to explain to the headteacher that he wants his daughter to miss a day's schooling.
Lee doesn't want to tell the headteacher that he wants to take Mollie to the Adventure Canyon theme park, because it risks him having to maybe pay a financial penalty. So he tells a lie, and says that Mollie has a dentist's appointment.
Lee's wife Lucy isn't happy that Mollie's day off is based on a lie, but the two parents are quite competitive with each other, to put it mildly, and both want Mollie to think of them as "the cool parent". So they both insist on going along with Mollie to Adventure Canyon, just so that the other doesn't get to be "the cool one".
What madness!!!!
Oh dear - and I wonder if this is what our two daughters thought about Lois and me when they were growing up. After all, we could neither of us ever have been accused of dressing stylishly, that's for sure!
Too late to do anything about that now haha!
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzz!!!!!
