Monday October 5th 2020

Oh dear – a wretched day.

In the morning  I was talking on and off with Sarah, out daughter in Australia, who’s trying to use her new secure key gadget to log on to her bank account. The gadget was posted to me, hence the need for my assistance. A three-way conversation was going on with Sarah, me, and a woman from the bank. Repeated attempts by her to log in failed, and she only succeeded, finally, at about 2 pm our time.

In the afternoon, I was talking on and off with a Car Tyre company in Cheltenham -  the tyres on our car, the original ones that came with it, are now in a poor condition, probably as least partly because of our low mileage, especially since lockdown started. But the car tyre guys couldn’t replace them all with new ones today. They will be able to do the work, but they’ll have to keep the car till tomorrow.  When it’s ready I’ll have to venture into town to collect the car – this will be the first time for me to visit town since the lockdown started, and I’ll have to do it either by bus or taxi, wearing a mask and all that stuff – scary !!!!

The highlight of the day was that we got a few more raspberries off our canes – there aren’t many more left now, but they’ve certainly done us proud this year – the fruit that keeps on giving. How bountiful nature is haha!!!

we harvest another load of raspberries – when will the harvest end ??!!!!!

19:30 Lois goes into the dining-room to take part in her sect’s weekly Bible Seminar on zoom. I settle down on the sofa and watch last Friday’s edition of Gogglebox, a fun programme where the regular, now famous, "ordinary TV viewers" comment on the week's programmes from the comfort of their sofas and armchairs. Lois has got fed up with Gogglebox, so tonight is a good chance for me to catch up with the series.

During the programme tonight, we see two of the Gogglebox programme's longest-standing participants, Giles and “Nutty” (Mary), an older couple who live in Wiltshire – these are the two participants that Lois and I identify most with.

Boris was recently in the UN making an inspiring speech [Surely not “inspiring”, after all we’re talking about Boris here! – Ed} about the need for international cooperation, and ordinary viewer Giles has some pertinent comments once more.

Enough said!!!

21:00 Lois emerges from her zoom seminar and we watch our usual two Monday TV quizzes, but we’re both suffering from tired brains. This week we only get 4 answers right that the Edinburgh and Manchester students get wrong – which is just above our “satisfactory” threshold. But yes, we’ve still got it!!!

22:00 Feeling satisfied we go to bed – zzzzzzzzzz!!!!
