09:00 Why is it always such a rush? I've only had a half a shave when it's time for our weekly zoom call with Sarah, who lives in Perth, Australia, with Francis and their 8-year-old twins Lily and Jessica.
Yikes!
it's 9 am and our weekly zoom call starts with our daughter Sara
and husband Francis in Perth, Australia
Help!!! We can't cope any more haha !!!!!!
The twins have some of their latest Lego creations to show us, which is nice.
the twins show us some of their latest Lego creations -
this one is a St Johns Ambulance station: how cute they are !!!!
Lois and I quickly notice that both Sarah and Francis are wearing extremely light clothing, but when we ask, they say that the temperature down there has actually gone down, so today it's only the high 20's Celsius, or 80's Fahrenheit. What madness!!!!!!!
Last weekend it was 44C or 111F, and Francis was out playing golf for 5 hours in the sun, and he walked altogether 10km or 6 miles. "Never again!", he says, and Lois and I don't blame him. My god!!!
flashback to October: Francis takes this picture of a deadly
snake whilst in the middle of a previous game of golf - yikes (again) !!!!!
Health warning - there wasn't really a white circle on the grass:
it's been superimposed by a clever new picture editing system.
The family bought a boat a few months ago, but so far they haven't managed to get it out on the water and put it under sail - the Swan River, where their yacht club is situated. But all that could start changing soon: they've joined the club's exclusive "Cruisers" group, which the club has started to encourage new sailors, and the whole family are hoping to go down to the club tomorrow to see how far they can get with some expert guidance.

launching ramp on the Swan River
Apparently Francis got it out on the water under sail last Sunday with a friend, but then the wind just died, so they had to start the motor to bring the boat back to shore. What madness !!!!!
They tell us that the Western Australia state government have got a very tough policy on coronavirus vaccinations now, putting pressure on employers to dismiss unvaccinated employees and prohibiting unvaccinated people from entering a wide range of establishments - pubs, restaurants etc.
That's the way you do it!
10:15 The call ends, and Lois and I have to set to work to swab down all our groceries with disinfectant, together with all the ready meals for the visit tomorrow of my sister Gill, who lives in Cambridge, together with her daughter Lucy, plus the food for our Valentine Day's lunch on Monday. It's disinfect-mayhem haha!!!!
11:00 After that we get to work on the house and clear some of the clutter in preparation for Gill and Lucy's visit tomorrow. I'm going to leave the vacuuming till the last minute, to avoid heartbreak haha!
Our dining-room is mainly used as an office - it has 3 computers: admittedly one doesn't work. Plus a filing-cabinet and bureau. We estimate that only 25% of the room is dining-room, the rest is office, so we have to change the balance, and we do quite well.
Last night when I looked, the room seemed a total nightmare - yikes!
We make some progress today, and this is what the room looks like by lunchtime:
the Hawkwell House Hotel in Iffley
20:00 We watch some TV, an interesting profile of comedian Bob Hope, presented by script-writer Barry Cryer, who died last week.
All our favourite Bob Hope scenes are here, which is nice, like some of the ones with Crosby in the "Road to" series of movies.
bits and pieces of advice for how to plan the shoot-out.
1. That bad guy that's after you draws from the left, so lean to the right.
2. Towards sunset there's a wind from the east, so you'd better aim to the west.
