Thursday February 17th 2022

Our first full day with our daughter Alison and her family in Headley, Hampshire.

Of Ali and Ed' 3 children, Josie (15) and Rosalind (13) are off school this week for half-term, but they have lots of school work and revision to do, with exams coming up in the next few weeks after they return to school. Isaac (11) has his half-term break next week, because his school is in a different county (Hampshire) from the girls (Surrey), so this week he is going to school each day on the school bus.

What madness it all is !!!!!! In other European countries all children have the same holidays. It's only in England that it's arranged at  county level.

What a crazy country we live in !!!!!!

Lois and I go for a walk with our daughter Alison and the family's Danish dog Sika. Ed has gone to London again today to work in his central London office.

we start off on our walk - Ali and Ed's house can be seen in the background

the mid-point of our walk

In the afternoon I go upstairs for a nap, while Lois goes with Ali and the girls to take Sika on his so-called "bonus walk". Everybody's saying that we won't be able to go out at all tomorrow because of Storm Eunice coming off the Atlantic. They're forecasting 75 mph winds for this part of the country!

YIKES !!!!!!

15:00 Lois and I sit down in the window and do a bit of Danish - we run the UK's only U3A Intermediate Danish group and we have a zoom meeting coming up in 10 days time. As part of our preparation today we go through a bit more of the Danish crime novel that the group is reading, and I give Lois a bit of pronunciation practice, as a reward, because she's been so good haha!

Afterwards, as a bonus reward,  she reads a bit of Ed's copy of "The Economist" magazine (in English) on her Kindle. We sit about 8 feet apart, but this is just the way the chairs are arranged. I haven't got a Putin-style fear of intimacy haha!!!!

Lois and I sit at opposite ends of the huge living-room window
to read some of Ed's magazines!

included for comparison purposes: Putin, with interpreters, talking to
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán a couple of weeks ago

Putin and Macron, with the famous Franco-Russian
so-called "dancing interpreters".

19:00 After dinner we watch some TV - it's an odd situation in Ali and Ed's house because they don't have what Lois and I call "normal TV". Possibly stemming from their 6 years in Denmark they only watch TV through internet catch-up services and through pay-to-view things like Netflix and Amazon Prime, which Lois and I aren't really interested in - we prefer not paying for anything haha!!!

But what a crazy world we live in !!!!!!!

our 15-year-old granddaughter Josie
with Otto the cat - awwww !!!!!!

22:00 We go to bed - Storm Eunice is expected to hit around 4 am tomorrow morning.

Yikes !!!!!!! [Just go to bed! - Ed]
