It's starting to cool down at last by this afternoon, with all our preliminary packing done for tomorrow, and the temperature dipping down to just under 80F (26C). After the extreme heat of the last few days, Lois and I celebrate with some sheer self-indulgence: a shower followed by a nap in bed and then chocolate cookies and tea on the patio - well, we're worth it, aren't we haha!
And we begin the party by popping the two balloons hanging over our bed - left-overs from our Golden Wedding of 2 weeks ago. The one on the left (the gold one) looks all shrivelled, making the white one look horribly swollen and diseased, so we decide to put them both out of their misery.
It's only being kind haha !!!!
we start our self-indulgent afternoon by popping out
balloons left-over from our golden wedding - awwww, pop pop !!!!
Don't you think that when you look back over a relationship, it's the balloons that you tend to think of first? I know Lois and I do, and I read recently in that interview in Onion News, that it's the same with Stormy Daniels when she's looking back with nostalgia on her Trump years.
The Onion: “What are
the images that first come to mind when you recall your time with Trump?”
Stormy Daniels: “I wish I could
say something interesting, but to be honest, it was all very vanilla. I just
think of light vampirism and balloons, and, of course, dressing up like Benny
the Bull. That sort of thing.”
Altogether a pretty short interview, wasn't it, with hindsight, but anyway, there you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. It's always the balloons we remember first, isn't it, or at least the first thing after the vampirism haha!
our balloons as they look after we pop them this afternoon - awww !!!!!
And dressing up like Benny the Bull is a lot of fun isn't it. Lois and I haven't indulged in that kind of malarkey, since - well, I guess it must have been the 1990's.
Do you remember how, back in the 1990's, Lois and I used to dress up 1980's style, just for fun - not because we were behind the times or anything haha! Lois used to put on her "ra-ra" dress, and I used to wear that awful "mullet" wig? Or when Lois used to dress up as a footballer, one of the so-called "lionesses"?
Tremendous fun !!!!!
1600: As the afternoon comes to an end, Lois and I emerge into the sunlight, and have our tea and biscuits on the patio - it's still warm, but at least we're not sweltering, which is nice!
tea and biscuits on the patio - and hold the front page:
it's not quite as hot as it has been!
Stop Press: it's "only" 75F / 24C - hurrah !!!!
21:00 After a late dinner, delayed by Lois's "chair yoga" session on zoom with her great-niece Molly, we settle down on the couch and watch tonight's programme in the new "Gone Fishing" series featuring comedians Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer.
A nice peaceful way for Lois and me to end the day. Paul and Bob have some trouble landing pikes up in Scotland, although eventually they get a 14-pounder. Is that a good size?
For a lot of the time the pike aren't biting, which gives our two anglers time to reflect.
Lois and I didn't know it, but Bob only got into fishing reluctantly - Paul invited him to go with him one time and, although initially unenthusiastic, Bob decided to give it a try, and he's never regretted, since, the fact that he "didn't say no" - which would have been his first impulse.
It's true, isn't it - as we get older we tend to say 'no' or, more probably, think up some excuse for turning down a suggestion. But is this good for us?
Food for thought, there! Fascinating stuff !!!!
21:30 We go to bed on an old episode of "The Fast Show" from 1994.
By now Lois and I are beginning to think about bed, so we don't want too much turmoil at this time of night - call us old stick-in-the-muds if you like haha!
Luckily it's all quiet on Spain's Channel 9 News - basically there isn't any news tonight, which makes a change! And the weather situation is also very stable, according to Spanish weather-girl, Paula, so she doesn't even need to stand up and point to her weather-map even, or put down her cigarette, which is nice!
On the show tonight all the excitement is in the programme sponsors' ad at the end. Once again, Lois and I regret that we didn't "take our Spanish to the next level", like we always meant to, which is a pity. Too late now haha!!!!!
So no news tonight on Channel 9, which is good news. But at the same time Lois and I are very taken with the sponsor's advert for its "Gizmo" with its "action pumpo" - is there anybody out there who speaks a bit of Spanish and can give us a bit more info? We're seriously considering ordering one. Answers on a postcard please!
Remember, basically Lois and I love the look of the "Gizmo", but it's rather expensive, so, before we order, we'd just like to know what it's for haha!!!
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzzz!!!!!
