Saturday October 4th 2025 "Do YOU despair at the latest whizzy new technology? Well, you're not the only one!!!"

Yes, friends, don't you just HATE it when those mysterious "computer guys" change everything on our computers without even asking us, their humble "users" for permission, if you please!!!!

It's sheer madness, isn't it! And it makes me and my light-to-moderate wife Lois "hopping mad" when we find that "the powers that be" have brought in so-called "Windows 11" or some such nonsense, and changed all our default settings etc, without telling us how to get them all back to something remotely sensible!!!

the new-fangled so-called Windows 11 - it's sheer madness!!!

However, there's one crumb of comfort for Lois and me - at least we're not the only ones who are going about "hopping mad" at the moment, to judge by this morning's Onion News for East Hampshire, the district Lois and I moved to just 9 months ago, back in January - which now seems a lifetime ago. What madness!!!!

Yes, friends, you've probably guessed by now that Yours Truly is trying to write his first blog post today on a shiny new laptop where a lot of weird things are going on, to put it mildly, and the cursor, for example is so small and light-coloured that Lois and I can't hardly see it!

Yours truly this morning, on our shiny new laptop,
trying to figure out the mess those Windows 11 guys have created:
it's sheer mayhem!!!!!! Those bastards !!!!!

They've changed all my settings and defaults - those bastards !!!! And I'm not interested in their much-trumpeted "new features", I don't need them demonstrated, I'm happy with the old ones, thank you very much! And lot of the fonts on the screen are so small, I can hardly read them!!!

I can't be doing with the 2-hour (!) - yes, 2-hour YouTube so-called tutorial - so I'll just have to try and figure it all out on my own for the next 5 years, pressing keys and clicking links at random, just like my dear late mother used to do back in the 1990s, when it was just Windows 0.1 ! And by the time I've figured it all out, they'll be telling us we'll all have to cope with Windows 12, or some such nonsense!!!! It'll be a miracle if this blog ever goes out at all!

What a crazy world we live in !!!

At least some people in our country are improving something and not just wrecking it for no apparent reason (!).

Step forward, our great NHS - Lois and I have an appointment at 9:40am at our local doctor's surgery for our COVID booster and winter flu jab.

our doctor's surgery, here in rural, semi-leafy Liphook, Hampshire

We turn up early of course, "in case there's any trouble parking", but the receptionists don't mind, which is nice. They take our names and dates-of-birth and give us a piece of paper to take with us, and we're "in and out in 5 minutes", just like the proverbial milkman with the traditional naughty housewife!

How different from winter 2020-2021, when, for the first time, Lois and I had to queue up in our face-masks at the County Fire Station in Cheltenham, where we lived at the time, only to be "marshalled" and "dragooned" within an inch of our lives, between horrendous barriers, questioned here, checked there etc etc. And even after we got the jabs, we were told to stay sitting for 30 minutes before being allowed to drive home - what madness it all was, from today's perspective !!!!!

Here's a flashback to January 2021 - what a nightmare!!!!

Yikes !!!!!

And so far, touch wood, Lois and I don't seem to have much in the way of side-effects, other than slightly aching upper arms where the needle went in - I think it was COVID booster in the left arm, and winter-flu jab in the right arm, but it could be the other way round. Check with your doctor if you're worried!

Just to be sure, however, we spend this afternoon in bed. [No change there, then! - Ed] And we've told our daughter Alison who lives about 5 miles away from us, in Churt, just over the county line in Surrey, that we may not be able to meet up with her tomorrow (Sunday), as originally planned.

Poor Ali will be a "political widow" again this coming week. Last week her husband Edward, an executive with Transport UK, was in Liverpool for the Labour Party Conference, to "schmooze" Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander and/or her officials, and this week he'll be doing the same thing with the Tories in Manchester - it's party conference season madness, I tell you!!!!

will be "schmoozing", oops sorry (!), "having frank discussions with" (!)

Yes, for Lois and me, this Saturday has just been one more crazy day!

But tonight at least, we can forget all that for a few hours, and relax on the sofa in front of the "telly", with our shiny new "divider" curtain shutting out some of the draught from the kitchen-diner, which is nice!

Yes it's Mitchell and Webb time again!

In this typical scene from the show, an obviously distressed young woman is being questioned by two detectives, after had had her mobile phone stolen by a man wielding a knife.

Next, the detectives' attention is drawn to the assailant's bike, the one he got away on, and what the victim had been doing before the assailant struck:

Oh dear, this interview isn't going anywhere very fast, is it - unlike the young man on his bike!!!

And no wonder police crime detection figures are so appalling !!!!

Will this do?

[Oh just go to bed! - Ed]

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzzzzz!!!!!
