Endelig, endelig, endelig!!!!

I må krydse fingrer for os!

English translation

17:30 Lois and I tumble out of bed after one of our occasional three-hour nap-sessions and have dinner on the terrace. After a 6-day visit, we said goodbye earlier in the day (at 1pm) to our daughter Alison and her family who had to go south. They are now visiting their old friends, the Andersen family, who live near the south coast in the county of Hampshire. They have also planned to visit various other places in England and the Netherlands on their way back to their home in Copenhagen.

Lois and I feel very tired and we do not feel like getting started yet with clearing up the house. But it's amazing how spacious the house now looks (and the individual rooms also - the living room, the dining room, the entrance hall, the guest rooms and the bathroom) - since Alison and Ed packed the family suitcases and put them in the car. Lois and I have turned back into two old crows living alone in a huge house and garden - good grief! And the house has suddenly become so calm and peaceful - what madness !!!!

19:30 We stick our feet up in front of the television and see the first episode of the 2nd season of the Danish crime series, "Dicte". The series is about a crime reporter named Dicte Svendsen. Joy, a member of our U3A Danish group, gave us a tip-off that the 2nd season was scheduled to start so we are looking forward to discussing the program on Thursday when the group's next meeting takes place.

An entertaining episode that contains a murder and lots of African girls, either prostitutes or diamond smugglers (or both!). But there is always a small problem in crime series where the hero / heroine / main character is not working for the police - how do they get clearance to take part in the investigation, etc.? In this episode, Dicte gets access to police files because her father was seriously injured in a car crash caused by the killer's African girl-friend (or something similar !!!).

Lois and I like John Wagner, the local detective, who is Dicte's friend. And we like Dicte, the heroine of the series, even though we think she's not as beautiful as Wagner's lesbian assistant. We are getting more and more shallow - no doubt about that !!!! The assistant is currently trying to score with a happily married woman she has got a crush on - good grief, what a crazy world we live in !!!!!

We like Wagner's young assistant

Lois is also interested in Dicte's parents. They are Jehovah's witnesses and many years ago they got their church to expel Dicte from the church's fellowship when, as a teenager, she had an illegitimate baby. Lois's church to a certain extent resembles the Jehovah's Witnesses movement, but is much less strict, and for example, members are very happy to receive blood transfusions, but only if they become necessary ha ha ha!

21:30 We carry on watching television. An interesting documentary is on, all about the "Museum of the Year" - 5 museums are in competition.

We are very excited to see that the Barbara Hepworth Museum in Wakefield wins the prize. Barbara is our favourite sculptor - we have no doubts about that! We have many times seen her museum and former workshop in St Ives, Cornwall.

Barbara specialised in creating sculptures with holes - it was her fantasy that everything looks better with a hole in it. And we agree with her on that!

Everything looks better with a hole in it, she thinks - and we agree with her on that !!!!

22:00 We go to bed and dream about holes - zzzz_zzzz_zzzz !!!!!

05:00 I get up early and take a little look online.

08:00 I hop back into bed with Lois and we drink our morning tea. We take a shower and get dressed. We get up and have breakfast.

10:00 We water the flower beds, vegetable garden and the greenhouse. Afterwards we have to go out. Lois wants to attend two church services taking place today in Tewkesbury, and she is not allowed to drive a car at the moment due to cataracts.

The good news is that she received a letter from the local hospital last week, which stated that her surgery is scheduled for September - hurrah! Finally, finally, finally !!!!

We drive over to the town of Tewkesbury. I'm a little disappointed to see that the city's Renaissance Festival is taking place today. There are long tailbacks and many streets in the town have been closed for traffic - damn!

I think I'm getting less and less tolerant with each year that passes. Good grief - I'm such a whinger !!!! I get furious when we find that we have to sit in a gigantic traffic jam - oh dear !!!!

A typical street parade during the town of
Tewkesbury's Renaissance Festival

11:15 I drop Lois off near the church and drive home again. I eat lunch. I take a little look online. I see that Alison, our daughter, has put a charming picture of two of her children up on Instagram. Rosalind (9 years) and Isaac (6) are playing with Lego on a rug in the garden together with the Andersen family's two sons.

14:30 I drive over to Tewkesbury to pick Lois up after the church's second service. Fortunately, the traffic jams have disappeared. We come home and relax with a cup of tea on the terrace.

It is still quite hot so we decide to sleep in Sarah's old room tonight. The bed is 6 inches narrower (4 feet 6 inches), but the room faces north and overlooks the back garden. It is a bit cooler and quieter. We can open both the small window and the big one without it becoming noisy - hurrah! Cross your fingers for us!
