Tuesday 8 May 2018

I'm amazed at how much of my Danish I've forgotten during my 2 months in Australia - yikes, help! I will just have to resume my Danish blog slowly and hope that from small beginnings I can gradually win back my former knowledge and dazzling style. Damn!

10:00 My friend "Magyar" Mike comes and we talk a little about resuming our weekly Hungarian sessions after a 6 month break. We agree that during the next two weeks we will only communicate via email due to large car queues on the road from Stroud to Cheltenham - a major roadworks project is underway. Damn (again)!

11:00 Mike has to leave. Lois and I go into the backyard to do a little weeding. The flower beds and vegetable gardens have become a real jungle during our absence in Australia. Damn (again again)!

13:00 We have lunch and afterwards we go to bed for three hours. We have become very wicked since our return to England. Lois reads 12 pages of her bedtime book, "Love in a Cold Climate", one of her favorite bedtime books.

17:00 We get up. Lois has decided not to attend her church bible seminar that taking place this evening in Brockworth library.

We have dinner and spend the evening listening to the radio, first, an interesting program all about Orson Welles, the well-known actor, who very famously "started at the top (“Citizen Cain”) and worked his way down to the bottom".

The second program is all about the problem of camels in Australia's central regions.

The camels were transported from Asia in the 19th century so that they could work on remote farms in the desert, but they were all released into the wild in the 1930s. Now these "feral" camels have become a big problem because they drink all the water in the water holes and as a result, the other animals of the region are dying out.

What madness !!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzzzzz !!!!!
