10:30 Lois og
jeg går ud i baghaven igen for at fortsætte med at ”lægge haven i sengen for
vinteren”.
Lois må tage fuld kredit for denne succes.
Alison, vores datter i København,
Hvad sker der her – jeg føler
mig pludselig forvirret.
Du
godeste, derfor virker det lidt sindssygt efter min mening, at adoptere to
killinger udover Sika.

Raj smutter

zzzzzzz!!!!
English
translation
10:30 Lois and
I go out into the back garden to carry on "putting the garden to bed
for the winter". Lois clears up here and there while I do a little weeding
in the so-called "bean garden", where we grew runner beans, French
beans, and Portuguese beans.
It has been a very successful year in the garden: in
particular the potatoes, carrots, beans, beetroot, zucchini and water cress.
Lois must take full credit for this success. She has actually taken over
responsibility for the vegetable garden this year, at her own request. It has
been her own project, and I have just helped with the more physical side.
Lois's hard work is rewarded -
with a gigantic carrot or three
I have to accept my new role as deputy
head gardener,
and this I do in all humility.
13:00 After lunch and a gigantic afternoon nap, I jump up
on my exercise bike and cycle 9 miles - back to the normal distance after
yesterday's so-called dizziness attack - yikes, that was scary !!!
15:30 I go down to the dining room and take a little look
online. Alison, our daughter in Copenhagen, has posted a picture on "Insta"
- it seems that the family has adopted (temporarily?) two black kittens, which
is a bit of shock because they have also been keeping a dog, Sika, for 3 years.
They left their original cat, Minx, with us when they moved to Denmark in
November 2012. What is happening here - I suddenly feel confused.
Later in the afternoon we get an email from Alison,
explaining the background to the story. For 6 months, these two stray kittens
have been living in the yard behind the English bookstore in Hellerup, a small
suburb of Copenhagen, together with their mother. The shop's staff have been
feeding them but are worrying more and more at the moment because of the coming
cold weather.
It is typically warmhearted of Alison to take pity on the
kittens (the council would almost certainly put them down) and agree to
adopt them, but it seems a little insane in my opinion. The family has a dog,
Sika, although Alison thinks these kittens will be streetwise enough to cope
with him.
The problem is that Ed's company plans to let him go
within the next 6 months and the family could either move back to England or
move elsewhere in the world if Ed manages to find a new job abroad. Good grief,
that's why it seems a bit insane to me to adopt two kittens besides Sika. Lois
and I have been preparing to let the family stay with us temporarily, but it would be
very difficult with 2 kittens because we also have a cat - Minx, who originally
belonged to Alison, before the family moved to Denmark 5 years ago. Good grief,
what madness !!!!
18:00 Lois and I have dinner and watch television. We are
looking forward to seeing the first episode of the Big Bang Theory's new season,
even though we expect the possibilities for humor to be a bit limited because
the authors have 2 big events to cover: Amy and Sheldon getting engaged and
Bernadette finding out that she is pregnant again (also the episode only lasts
19:45 minutes, which is a bit stingy we think !!!).
It is, however, amusing that Sheldon asks for Stephen
Hawking's permission before proposing to Amy.

Raj pops into Stuart's comic book store to buy them an
engagement gift, but changes his mind when he suddenly realises that they are
happy while he, Raj, is bitter and alone.
But Lois and I wonder how many years the series can
continue, now there are 3 married couples, and only Raj is single.
21:00 I take a little look at the web and theonion.com, the influential American news source. I get a bit of a shock, I have to admit.
Walter Holbrook, a local dad, has been busy planning his family's preparations for their flight to Florida. He recommends that they arrive at the airport at least 14 hours early. He says the plane leaves at 6:45pm in the evening and it takes some time to park the car and get through the security checks, so they plan to arrive by 4:45 am - it is wise, he says, to add 8-9 hours for the trip to the airport in case there is traffic. "It gives us more than enough time to print our boarding passes, check the luggage in and be ready at the gate," he says. "Then we have 10 hours to get food if any of us are hungry." At press time, Walter had changed the arrival time to 3:45 am, "just to be safe".

I admire Walter's attitude, but most of all I admire his control
over his family. I would love to adopt his methods, but I have never been able
to persuade Lois and our daughters to cooperate with me. What's wrong with me -
I'm such a wimp ha ha ha !!!
22:00 We go to bed. I read 9 pages of my bedside book
before I drift off to sleep zzzzzzz !!!!
