Lois and I drive south to the
coast - we have booked a mini apartment in the port city of Poole for 5 nights.
The apartment turns out to be brand new but much more cramped than expected - a
mini mini kitchen with very limited cooking facilities to put it mildly: only
one electric hotplate. A super bathroom but a bedroom almost completely filled
with a double bed and a TV screen high up on the wall. No living room or
armchairs - damn! We spend most of our time lying on the bed, except when we
are eating or taking a shower. More suitable for younger couples, we think,
than for old crows like us.
on the way to Poole we have a lunch
break near the small town of Melksham,
at the local Subway restaurant
we take a second break at Oli &
Nic's café,
located just outside the small town of
Blandford Forum
our mini-flat's double bed where we spend most of
our time
because of the lack of space - yikes
!!!!
Due to the lack of cooking
facilities, we decide to eat a substantial lunch in the town every day and have
just a light meal in the evenings at the apartment.
I sit down with the laptop and
see an interesting photo from our 6-year-old grandchildren's classroom in
Perth, Australia: it turns out that 12 of the class's approx. 20 children were
born in other countries, with 5 born in England (including our grandchildren
Lily and Jessie).

We spend the day in Poole's port
area and have fish and chips at one of the local restaurants.
I see on the web another
interesting photo from Lily and Jessie's elementary school class in Perth,
Australia. The kids today have had the chance to go to school dressed up as one
of their favourite superheroes, which must have been fun.

We spend the day in the small
seaside town of Swanage: unfortunately, we get involved in huge traffic jams on
the road, because the usual car ferry was unfortunately out of service - damn!

We spend the morning in the small
village of Wimborne, a little north of Poole, and have lunch at a café next to
the village's tiny river.
In the afternoon we drive to the
nearby seaside town of Bournemouth - we have been invited to Lois's cousin
Brian and his wife Ruth's 60th wedding anniversary party at their local church.
When Brian and Ruth got married
in Bournemouth 60 years ago, Lois was one of the 3 bridesmaids.

Today is Lois' and my 47th
wedding anniversary, but we have decided to postpone celebration until
tomorrow. Lois is going to church this morning and this afternoon we have
promised to visit my cousin Peter, who lives in a nursing home in Bournemouth -
he is unfortunately suffering from vascular dementia, but we are very pleased
to see that he has not lost his sense of humour, which is a bit of a relief, to
put it mildly. But he stays lying on his back in his bed during our entire
visit, which is a bit of a shame: he can't move at all without the help of his
carers.

We check out of our mini mini
apartment in Poole and drive over to a hotel just outside the town of Romsey
and check in. We are soon in full swing celebrating our 47th wedding
anniversary with a gigantic afternoon nap, a local gin and tonic and a
delicious dinner at the hotel's restaurant, where a top-rated chef is in charge
of the kitchens - yum yum yum!

We drive over to Haslemere,
Surrey to visit our daughter Alison and her family for a few days.

i havnebyen Poole i 5 nætter.
madlavningsfaciiteter for at sige mildt: kun én elektrisk kogeplade.
Mere
passende for yngre par, synes vi, end for gamle krager som os.
vi tager en
frokostpause i nærheden af den lille by Melksham,
på den
lokale Subway-restauranten
vi tager en
2. pause på Oli & Nic’s café,
der ligger
lidt udenfor den lille by Blandford Forum

deres yndlingssuperhelte, hvilket må have været morsomt.

i deres lokale kirke.

at sige mildt.
for køkkenerne - yum yum yum!

bryllupsdagsmiddag
hendes familie i nogle dage.
