Cheltenhams Bachkor fejrer dets 70. ”fødselsdag”.
En smuk kirke, og strandhåndklæderne hængende
over altanen skaber en afslappet stemning

Luci Briginshaw, korets fantastiske solist.

English translation

18:00 Lois and I have dinner and afterwards we have to go out. We do not have time tonight to water the garden - we must leave that until tomorrow - oh dear! We have tickets for a choral concert in a local church. The concert celebrates the 70th birthday of the Cheltenham Bach Choir, and Sarah, my former work colleague, is singing tonight in the choir.

Sarah told us the other day that the choir's women members would be dressed as Barbie dolls, but tonight we realise she was only referring to the colour and fabric of their tops, which is a bit of a disappointment!

We talk a little to her and Keith, her husband, during the interval - she says she's very hot in the top and is looking forward to getting out of it - my goodness, wait till you get home, Sarah!

We tell her that Mattel has recently given the Ken doll's appearance the greatest makeover since its launch in 1961, and she promises to speak to the choir's director, and recommend Ken's new look as a possible model for the choir's male members.

Fortunately, we have the Mattel catalogue with us and we browse through it all together. The choir's female members are sporting a look based on one of Barbie's fashionista women, so we choose the new "Man Bun Ken" as the best candidate for the male members of the choir.

Barbie Fashionista and Man Bun Ken –
the perfect combination for the Bach Choir’s new look, we think

It is interesting that Man Bun Ken sounds a bit like a Vietnamese general's name - good grief! Perhaps we can rename Hanoi to Man Bun Ken City, for example.

Lois and I enjoy the evening's concert. The soloist, Luci Briginshaw, has a wonderful voice - and the audience falls in love with her, there's no doubt about that!

The Cheltenham Bach Choir celebrates its 70th birthday
A beautiful church, and the beach towels
hanging over the balcony create a relaxed mood

Luci Briginshaw, the choir's fantastic soloist.

For Lois's and my part, I have to admit that it's nice to be able to go out for once. We have unfortunately become two old crows who stay home every evening and watch television.

If we want to let our hair down every so often, then a concert in a church in Cheltenham is the best option for us in my opinion and much better than a pop music festival in Somerset. Jeremy Corbyn is not appearing, and no one offers to sell us illegal drugs, thank goodness!

22:00 We drive home and go to bed - zzzzzzz !!!!!

04:00 I wake up after a terrible nightmare - in my dream, Corbyn has won the election and I try to log on to my computer to see the results, but the computer rejects my password over and over again - I'm in a panic. Corbyn and IT problems at the same time – a classic !!!!

I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

07:45 I hop back into bed with Lois and we drink our morning tea. We get up and have breakfast.

09:45 We head over to the local Homebase DIY supermarket to buy a can of light pink paint, that I can apply to the wall under the window in Alison's old room. Unfortunately, they only have quite big cans, which cost 14 pounds - damn! So we decide to buy 3 cheap test cans instead.

But when we get them home we find out that the colour does not match the rest of the wall that well. Damn (again)! It's too pink, like the colour of a little girl's nursery - good grief!

The Dulux Paint and Wallpaper centre on Fairviewgade has a larger selection, but it is unfortunately closed today. So we decide to continue painting the window area with the sample cans we have already bought and not to worry about the difference in colour.

The most important thing now is to finish the painting and try to remove the smell of paint: our grandchildren arrive from Copenhagen in 7 days and they have to sleep in this room. We will have to keep the windows open all day for the next 7 days - no doubt about it !!!!

11:00 Sarah, our daughter in Perth, Australia, uses the whatsapp app to call us. The call quality is very good and it's completely free - what madness !!!!

Sarah has bought her (nearly) 4-year-old twins, Lily and Jessica, a new DVD of "The Beauty and the Beast" to entertain them while she talks to us. But at one point we overhear them shouting for Sarah's help - it seems that the movie is "too scary", at least at the beginning - my goodness! How quickly they are growing up !!!!

13:00 We eat lunch on the terrace and afterwards I go to bed and take a gigantic afternoon nap - zzzzz !!!!

15:00 I get up and take a little look online. Steve, my American brother in law, has sent me an email. I'm glad to hear that a tall building in Los Angeles has honoured the late TV star Adam West by displaying a huge illuminated bat on the side of the building.

A group of Batman fans celebrate the life of the late Adam West

A little nostalgic because the illuminated bat reminds us of the times when Batman could climb such tall buildings without difficulty on the outside, in part so as not to disturb the tenants. He was a true gentleman - I know that for sure. We will not see his like again, no doubt about that!
