Monday December 16th 2024 "Is the future of the UK and of your family safe to safe-ish haha?!"

I've got a bit of a "corker" of a question for you this morning, Dear Reader! But don't waste a lot of time thinking about it, if you can't remember the answer, it isn't that important, honestly!

And here's the thing...  would YOU say that the future of YOUR family, AND of our country, in safe or, at least, safe-ish hands?

Well, most of us, in West Worcestershire at least, would say a big fat and defiant "Yes!" to that little poser, wouldn't we, despite all the doomsayers. And it's now "official" - at least according to this "humdinger" of an article in this morning's Onion News (West Worcestershire) print edition (page 94). Did you see it?

Heart-warming news, isn't it, and, if it were ever multiplied nationwide, what a rosy picture it would be certain to paint for the future of the whole of the UK, that's for sure!

And a quick word to all you feminists out there - MORI confirms that a "granddaughter" survey is literally, "almost the next project on their books", so watch this space: I'll certainly be bringing those results to you too, just as soon as I get my hot little hands on them (!).

My medium-to-long-suffering wife Lois and I are now 78 would you believe! [Time now to STOP repeating that, probably! - Ed], and we would certainly rate "help with mobile phones" as "way up there" on our list of grandson (or granddaughter (!)) plus-points, to put it mildly!

both in dire need of help with using our mobile phones (!)

And as we sit with our coffees this morning we think of the dire lack of dexterity we routinely display in the use of our mobile phones. But at the same time, we can't help chuckling over the latest amusing Venn diagrams sent over by Steve, our American brother-in-law, who monitors these diagrams for us on a weekly basis on the internet.

This week it's the third diagram, with its "asking our ancient phones to do anything" component, that resonates most with us.

Sadly we don't always have our grandsons (or granddaughters!) with us all the time to give us mobile phone advice, but we think our mobiles often know, better than we do ourselves, what we want to do, which is a bonus.

Many's the time we put a careless finger on some part of the screen by mistake, or "fumble" with it generally, e.g. to stop it falling on the floor. This always seems to set our phones off doing something mysterious  that it probably thinks we intended to make it do, or which it thinks we ought to make it do, and I dare say it's all probably for our own good - although we're not 100% sure. Your opinions welcome, naturally, so feel free to "weigh in" with those!

It's a bit of a funny day for us already. You see, (1) we had to be up early to get ready for Joanne - a.k.a. "footwoman" - who calls on us at 9 am to give us each a toenail cut and manicure: and what says "You're old!" better than that haha!

[Finally, the penny's dropped then haha! - Ed]

Other crazy things today: (2) Lois is on a super-healthy diet so she's routinely now making her own "healthy" version of muesli out of oats, herbs, spices etc - what madness !!!!

Plus (3) we'll soon be moving from our home in Malvern to  a house 136 miles away in Liphook, Hampshire, so that we can more quickly get advice from grandsons (and granddaughters) on mobile phones and other "facts of modern life".

We're hoping to seal the house deal on Friday, and we have to pay a massive amount of money to purchase a house in the "posh" part of the UK - the South East, or anywhere near the prestigious London commuter belt. And I have to establish today how we can get the money online to Oliver, our "big city" hotshot London solicitor on Wednesday as soon as the money arrives from the mortgage-lenders.

So, all in all, no peace for the wicked (again) haha !!!!!

in Liphook, Hampshire, and (rightmost) Oliver our "big-city" London solicitor

Also Lois and I have to sign the loan agreement today, scan it in and email it to the mortgage lender and to our solicitor. So, for the second time in 2 days we have to drag over (not literally!) our neighbour from across the street, poor Mrs Smith, so that she can "witness" our signatures.

The Smiths are a bit younger than us: Mr Smith is retired, but Mrs Smith still works part-time locally.
I thought I would have a lot in common with her, when she told me she "works for NSA", something I myself did for 3 years in the States 1982-1985, as a deskbound medium-to-top secret agent.

It was only later, that I began to discover, in my casual conversation with Mrs Smith, that our jobs appeared to have had little in common. Eventually "the penny dropped" (!) that in fact the British NSA seems to be something quite different from the organisation that I worked for in the States in the early 1980's.

And both organisations, the one in Malvern and the one in Maryland USA, are apparently at pains to point out that they are "not connected to each other in any way", and that there exist "only minor overlaps between our responsibilities".

Who knew haha!

has its headquarters about a mile away from where Lois and I live; and (picture 4)

What a crazy world we live in !!!!!

Will this do?

[Oh just go to bed! - Ed]

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz!!!!!
