New Zealand vinder med 41-32.

Pludselig kalder Lois mig ind i spisestuen.

21:15 Lois beslutter at gå i seng tidligere, end normalt, for at genoplade sine batterier.

Stakkels mig!!!!!

17:30 Lois comes back again. She popped into the neighbours' (Bill and Mary) at 3.30 pm to talk a little with Mary, who suffers from a form of mild dementia.

Lois is so warmhearted! She is very tired - she spent the morning helping to staff her church's pop-up shop, and tonight she has to prepare next week's schedule showing who has agreed to cover what half-day's time slots in the shop etc, and then she has to send the schedule out by email to church members. She also has to update the shop's website - my god, poor Lois !!!!

18:45 We have dinner. Afterwards Lois goes in the dining room and sits down in front of the computer to draw up next week's pop-up shop schedule.

I have a little alone time and watch a bit of television. The women's Rugby Union World Cup 2017 final is on, in which 12 nations have competed in 3 opening pools in Dublin, after which there were semifinals and tonight the final in Belfast. This evening's final is between New Zealand and England. New Zealand wins 41-32.

I stick my feet up in front of the television and wallow in the match's first half. I expect New Zealand to smash England, but I'm a little surprised that the position at half-time is 17-10 to England. Good grief, what madness !!!

I expect NZ to smash England (in white), but I'm a little surprised,
that the position at half time is 17-10 to England. My god, what madness !!!!

20:30 The referee blows her whistle and it's half time. The ITV channel's experts begin to chat about the first half of the match. All three think England have a good chance of winning and keeping the cup they won 4 years ago.

Suddenly Lois calls me into the dining room. She asks me to help her update the pop-up shop's website. I quickly come to the conclusion that she is actually too tired and is getting confused - she is mixing up different files for example. Finally, we succeed in updating the website and we send the updated schedule out by email to the church members - hurrah!

excerpt from the pop-up shop's updated website

21:15 Lois decides to go to bed earlier than usual to recharge her batteries. I step back into the living room to see the last 10 minutes of the match between New Zealand and England.

I get a bit of a shock when I see the current state of play - 41-25 to New Zealand. My god, I should not have stopped watching the match - the English team obviously missed my support while I was helping Lois with her update. Damn!

I get back in the living room 30 minutes later and
the position is now completely different. It's now 41-25 to New Zealand.
My god, what happened while I was helping Lois with her computer work ???

The match ends 41-32 to New Zealand, and I'm sure the best team won. The New Zealand team has so many big strong maories - I would not like to meet any of them in a dark alley: I know that for sure. But one of the team's handful of skinny blondes, Kendra Cocksedge, is a little dynamo too - my god, New Zealand dominates world rugby, both the men's and women's game. I do not understand exactly why.

22:00 I go to bed – zzzzzz!!!!!

04:00 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

I get going with reading the rest of chapter 11 of Gunnlaugs saga, a 1000-year Icelandic saga, because Scilla's U3A Old Norse group is holding its next meeting on Wednesday at the library in the town center.

I read about the duel between two Icelandic bards, Gunnlaug and Raven. They have agreed to fight a duel to decide who will have the right to have Helga, Iceland's most beautiful woman. Helga is currently married to Hrafn, but it is Gunnlaug, she is in love with, and she still refuses to have sex with Hrafn because of her feelings for Gunnlaug. How exciting life was in Iceland in the 11th century - no doubt about that!

Gunnlaug and Raven, two Icelandic bards, fight a duel,
to decide who gets the right to have Helga, the most beautiful woman in Iceland

Eventually they meet and start the duel. Each man has about 5 friends who want to join in the brawl and fight duels with members of the opposing team - it is turning into a big battle, no doubt about that! Gunnlaug injures Raven "slightly" (he cuts Hrafn's leg off !!!!) and offers to stop the fight, but Hrafn insists on fighting on - but he asks Gunnlaug to pick him up a glass of water first. Gunnlaug cannot find any glasses, so he brings the water in his helmet.

But when Gunnlaug hands Hrafn the water, Hrafn hits him with his sword and injures him grievously - my god. He is not playing the game for sure. Hrafn admits that he was breaking the rules, but he excuses himself on the grounds that Gunnlaug is enjoying Helga's hugging and kissing on a daily basis while Helga is giving him, Hrafn, her husband, the cold shoulder, which must have been very annoying, to put it mildly !!!

In the last few pages of the chapter, the two bards manage to kill each other, so both Helga’s husband and her lover are now dead. My goodness – poor Helga !!!!

The battle ends with Helga’s husband (Raven) and her
lover (Gunnlaug) killing each other – oh dear! Poor Helga !!!!

08:00 I hop into bed with Lois and we drink our morning tea. We go in the shower and get up. We eat breakfast.

11:00 We talk a little with Sarah, our daughter in Perth, Australia, and with Francis, Sarah’s husband, and with their 4-year-old twins, Lily and Jessica.

The twins turned 4 years of age on July 26, but their birthday party has been delayed until today. It took place in the Fairy Shop in Joondalup, a small suburb of Perth, where the twins and their little friends dressed up as fairies. Lois and I got to know Joondalup very well when we were visiting Sarah and her family last year.

the Fairy Shop in Joondalup, a little suburb of Perth

12:00 We have lunch and afterwards we go out. Lois wants to attend a church service taking place in Tewkesbury today, and she is not allowed to drive a car at the moment due to cataracts. I drive her over to the town and drop her off opposite the city's library.

14:00 I drive to the local Morrisons supermarket to buy a few things. Afterwards I pop into the supermarket's café. I have a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. I read some pages of "Sir Orfeo", a Middle English poem, because Lynda's U3A "Making of English" group is holding its monthly meeting on Friday. "Sir Orfeo" is the group's latest project.

Sir Orfeo was an English king whose wife, Heurodis, was abducted by the king of the fairies, which at that time was always a bit of a risk, especially if your wife was beautiful. The king of the fairies could pick and choose, and he tended to pass on the ugly ones - good grief, what a crazy world we live in !!!!

The Fairy King abducts Sir Orfeo’s wife, the cheeky bugger!!!

15:00 The service ends and I pick Lois up in the town's largest parking lot. We drive home and relax with a cup of tea on the terrace.

What a day!!!! The morning went to waste. It was very nice to talk to Sarah and her family, but we had agreed to talk at 10 o'clock (5pm Western Australian time) and we did not get any answer when we called them. Eventually they arrived home and we could start the Skype call. The afternoon went a little bit to waste too, but I cannot do anything about that - until Lois has her eye surgery, I will have to drive her here and there whenever she has appointments etc. Poor me !!!!!
