oven i købet.
at vande grøntsagerne i drivhuset.
Men Wagners
Wagners chef, byens dejlige politidirektør, Louise Holm, tager helt sikkert
(Linda) Bendtsen inde i politigården.
for
danske indvandrer for tusind år siden.

On” serie.
Stakkels
Barbara!!!!
wot they used t’be” musical.
danske gruppes møde finder sted hos os i morgen kl 14:30.
bemande shoppen.
English translation
17:00 I'm feeling bad again
tonight - I thought my cold was disappearing, but I've still got a bit of a
cold and I am coughing a lot into the bargain. I've got stiffness in my back
and joints for some reason - I feel like an old wreck. Damn!
18:00 Lois and I have dinner and
afterwards Lois goes out into the back garden to water the vegetables in the
greenhouse. She also pops into the neighbours' neighbours' (Stephen and Frances)
to water the vegetables in their greenhouse as well.
Lois is busy with gardening, so I
use the opportunity to see the rest of the latest episode of the Danish crime
series, "Dicte"'s 2nd season (5th episode). The series is about a
crime reporter from Aarhus named Dicte Svendsen, and her friend in the local
police, John Wagner. The More4 Channel aired this episode last Friday.
Lois has stopped watching the
series because of its sexual content, but unfortunately, I have to put up with
these unpleasant aspects because our U3A Danish group members like to discuss
the series every time we get together - oh dear, but I must be strong, I must
bear up, this is my fight and I must win it!
This week's case is a
match-fixing scandal in Danish football, but as usual the events in the main
characters' private lives are far more interesting than this week's crimes.
I cannot understand why the
city's policemen and women are so happy to take such big risks when it comes to
their private relationships. John Wagner, the co-hero of the series, is
harbouring Grace, an African ex-prostitute and illegal immigrant, in his
apartment, and in this episode he goes to bed with Grace for the first time. I
suppose, however, that the woman will be killed before too long: diamond smugglers
are looking for her, and it's only a matter of time before they find her and
kill her. But Wagner's career as a police detective will surely then be at an end -
there can't be any doubt about that.
In this episode, Wagner goes to
bed for the first time with Grace, the ex-prostitute
and illegal immigrant he is harbouring in
his apartment - what madness !!!
Wagner's boss, the city's lovely
police chief, Louise Holm, is certainly taking a big risk by making love to
Wagner's assistant, the gorgeous Officer (Linda) Bendtsen in Police HQ. In this
episode we see Holm and Officer Bendtsen sneak into the police HQ's archive
rooms and have their fun among the filing cabinets like a couple of school
girls - what madness!
Holm and Bendtsen sneak into
the police archive rooms
to get all "lovey-dovey" among the
filing cabinets, but Wagner hears them - yikes !!!!
In this episode, both Wagner and
Bendtsen find out about the dark secrets of each other's private lives and there
is a lot of tension between them - Bendtsen threatens to report Wagner to Holm
because of his relationship with the African ex-prostitute. Good grief, what
madness !!!!
I can only conclude that there
will be some sort of deal between the three at the end of the series - Wagner,
Holm and Bendtsen may agree not to divulge each other's "dirty"
secrets.
In the scenes between Wagner and
the African woman, the couple speak in English, which of a bit of a relief. I
do not have to read the subtitles, which are sometimes difficult to take in if
you are focusing on the imagery. I sometimes try to imagine how it was for our
ancestors to hear this Danish language spoken in so many places when England
was first crowded out with Danish immigrants, a thousand years ago.
Dicte herself, the crime reporter
and main character of the series, who actually solves all the crimes we see in
the series - she is much smarter than Wagner - is worried about her daughter,
Rose, who is becoming closer and closer every day to Dicte's mother, who is a
Jehovah's witness.
Dicte stumbles across a copy of the "Watchtower",
the church's newsletter, which her daughter has hidden under her bedside pillow.
Bo, Dicte's boyfriend, tries to calm Dicte - he says that Dicte's daughter
"is too clever to be fooled by that kind of crap" - good grief!

under her daughter's pillow and decides to
confront her

There are 2 Jehovah's witnesses who
have a habit of visiting us every week (either on Thursday or Friday). I let
Lois answer the door - if she's out I do not answer or go to the door with a
piece of bread in my hand (subtext - I'm having lunch) or a handkerchief in my
hand (subtext: I have a cold and am contagious - like now!). Every time they
talk to Lois, they give her a copy of the latest edition of "Watch
Tower". I always recommend Lois to give them the latest issue of her own
church's newsletter, in return. However she's far too sensible to go in for such childishness!
But sorry - that was a
digression! In this episode of Dicte, the Chinese and Swedish criminals
responsible for organising match-fixing in Danish football try to intimidate
Dicte from writing articles about match-fixing in her newspaper. They kidnap
her late at night and take her high up in a multi-storey car park and hang her
over a railing, a very scary moment.
a bunch of Swedish and Chinese
criminals take Dicte
high up in a multi-storey car park and hang
her out
over a railing to intimidate her - oh dear!
The scene reminds me of an
article I read the other day on the influential American news website, theonion.com. It turns
out that there have recently been 4-5 accidents in heaven, where some angel has
fallen out, and God has been forced to install some brand new guardrails for
health and safety reasons. What a crazy world we live in !!!!
God has been forced to
install
new guardrails in the sky after up to 5
accidents involving angels - oh dear!
20:30 Lois comes back into the
house and we watch the new TV movie "Babs", that I recorded on Sunday on
our shiny new YouView tv device. The film is about the life of Barbara Windsor,
who starred in many comedy films, especially in the famous "Carry On"
series.
In 1993, the now middle-aged
actress Barbara Windsor was sitting on a deserted theatre stage where she was
"speaking" to John Deeks, her dead father, who was the first to recognise her talent
as a child but who disappeared from her life after divorcing from Barbara's mother,
the woman who gave Barbara her stage name.
From drama school, Barbara began
singing at Ronnie Scott's club, where she met the charming but crooked Ronnie
Knight, who was later thrown into jail. Barbara ended up as Knight's pregnant
wife who had to have an abortion while Knight was in prison. Poor Barbara !!!!
The future seemed brighter when
she joined the Joan Littlewood Theatre Workshop in the late 1950s and became a
part of Lionel Bart's "Fings ain't wot they used t'be" musical. Film
and television roles followed, especially the 'Carry On' franchise, and despite
Joan's warning that Barbara could be stereotyped, the eternally "stupid blonde" Barbara was clever enough to take advantage of the persona, get her handsome
young man as a toyboy and become a national icon. Hats off to Barbara, say Lois
and I - kudos !!!!
A very entertaining movie, but
unfortunately, I doze off a little every so often and wake up at the end of the
movie, and I have to ask Lois what happened after the first 30 minutes - damn
!!!!
22:00 We go to bed together for
the first time for several days. We have recently been sleeping in separate
beds because of our colds. I read 9 pages of my bedtime book about James, Duke
of Monmouth, before I drift off to sleep - zzzzzzz !!!!!
05:30 I get up early and do one
of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.
08:00 I jump back into bed with
Lois and we drink our morning tea. We get up and have breakfast.
10:00 I get going with vacuuming
all over the house because our U3A Danish group meeting is taking place here
tomorrow at 2:30pm.
The local U3A association has two
webmasters who are working on creating a new local U3A site and they asked me
to send them a new description of our group, which I did.
Although we were originally
purely a language group, we have developed a little and have become a kind of
Nordic crime group. I notice today that there are also both a U3A crime book
group and a U3A detective fiction group in the town. I only hope that there is
enough room for all of us. I do not want any trouble !!!
U3A - Crime Books, Detective Fiction: A
"Completed Area" - Yikes!
12:30 We have lunch and
afterwards I go to bed and take a gigantic afternoon nap.
15:00 I get up. I take a little
look online and I see that Sharon, Lois's niece in Oxford, has
"liked" a amusing picture, which her friend Matt has posted on Facebook.
I like Sharon's refreshing
honesty - she is always very candid and she tells it like it is. I'm
afraid the Daily Express website's prediction that temperatures in England
could reach 80 degrees F in a couple of weeks are not going to be borne out - oh
dear!!!!
16:00 Lois and I relax with a cup
of tea on the couch. Tonight I'll be driving her over to Tewkesbury, where her
church will be holding its monthly business meeting. The future of the church's
pop-up shop is going to be debated (there is a possibility that the shop will
stay open after the end of August, and Lois wants to express her opinions, even
though I do not have the slightest idea what she thinks - I'm quite sure about
that! !!!! I imagine she's still thinking about it all. I know she believes
that the local church members who live in the town itself are not helping
enough with the staffing of the shop.
