... men i dagens finale viser Holland at

English translation

16:30 Lois and I see the rest of the women's European final between Holland and Denmark, an exciting match. Denmark's defeat is a bit disappointing after the euphoria of Denmark's victory over Germany in the semifinals. Holland, however, win today's final by 4-2, and Lois and I agree that Holland have been the better team and deserve their victory.

The Danish team show their euphoria
the other day after an exciting victory over Germany in the semifinals ...

... but in today's final, Holland show that
they are the better team

As I write these words, I suddenly see myself in a new light and I realise that I could have been a sports journalist like Raymond in HBO's "Everyone Loves Raymond". Damn! But it is sadly too late now - another lost opportunity.

18:00 We eat dinner: roast pork, with potatoes and green beans from our vegetable patch, and marrow from our neighbour's vegetable patch (ie Bob's). Yum yum!!!!

Afterwards Lois sits herself down in front of the computer. She has been doing a lot of research today about holes in her family tree. She is trying to find details of her great uncle Francis's granddaughter Janet Cox, who we believe lives on the island of Bermuda, and is the same age as us. Unfortunately, Lois cannot find any trace of Jan's birth. We only know that she sailed with her father, William, her mother, Janet Sr, and her big sister Margaret, from Britain to Bermuda in 1948, when Janet Jr was 2 years old. Damn! We feel like having a vacation on Bermuda, a place we have never visited. Where are you, Janet ?????

20:00 While Lois is doing her research in the dining room, I settle down in the living room and watch a bit of television. A documentary is on (1st part of 2), all about Silicon Valley. The host of the program is the charming Jamie Bartlett.

An interesting subject, but I'm a little disappointed that Jamie's approach to the topic is a little too negative, I think. I feel he is too keen to throw doubt on the potential benefits of new ideas like airbnb and uber.

Sam Altman (right), Y Combinator's 32-year-old president,
quickly sees what kind of person Jamie is - my goodness!

It is also a shame that Jamie, the host of the program, as the climax of his presentation, focuses so much on an interview with a former Facebook manager, Antonio Garcia Martinez, who plans to live off-grid with a powerful gun in a homemade tepee in the woods near the Canadian border because he is afraid of future social chaos and anarchy. Good grief - what madness!

Martinez, a former Facebook manager, plans to
live off-grid near the Canadian border, in case the
USA degenerates into social chaos in a couple of years' time –
good grief, what madness !!

However, I learn many interesting facts from this documentary. I've always been a little bit puzzled over why some of these new global businesses, like Amazon, airbnb, etc., make little or no profit. Jamie explains that the most important thing is to show that one's customer base is growing exponentially, rather than to make a big profit, if you are trying to attracting big investments.

Now it makes sense!

21:00 Lois comes in and we snuggle up on the sofa. We see two old episodes of "Father Ted" and then go to bed at 10pm, separate beds and rooms again because of our colds - zzzzzzz !!!!!!

04:30 I get up and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

I take a little look online. I see that Lois's niece Sharon has posted a plea for warmer weather on Facebook.

I sympathise with Sharon, but personally I would not believe anything I read in Daily Express headlines!

07:45 I hop back into bed with Lois and we drink our morning tea. We go in the shower, get dressed and get up. We eat breakfast.

I feel tired and lacking in energy today, but I do not know exactly why. I suppose it may have cost me some of my energy to try to fight off this cold, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

11:30 We eat lunch a little earlier than usual and afterwards we have to go out. Lois has agreed to help with manning her church's pop-up shop in the middle of Tewkesbury again this afternoon. I drive her over to the town and drop her off opposite the library. I drive home. Lois still has a bit of a cold. I hope she has enough energy to deal with the shop's "customers". Let's hope that no weirdos pop in! Luckily, Mari-Ann and Geoff are also there this afternoon.

13:00 I come home and go to bed for a gigantic afternoon nap - zzzzzzz !!!!

15:00 I get up and organise the photos Lois and I took in Denmark when we visited our daughter Alison and her family in June. We looked after our 3 grandchildren while Alison and Ed were away in Hong Kong for a few days.

I upload all the approx. 120 photos to the snapfish website and choose the 66 best photos (in my opinion) that I would like to use for compiling 3 photo books.

Lois has not appeared yet. The pop-up shop closes at 4:30pm, and Mari-Ann is going to drive her home, which will save me a total of a 45-minute drive there and back - hurrah! Oh dear, I'm getting so lazy nowadays !!!!
