lille Sarahs anden jul

Det ville have været alt for trættende!

English translation

18:00 We eat dinner and spend the rest of the evening watching television. An old episode of "The Good Old Days" is on, a television program that tried to recreate the atmosphere of the old vaudeville theatre. The program was first broadcast on 31 December 1978.

A very engaging show, decorated with a big Christmas tree just in front of the stage. The show ends with the participants singing the traditional "Auld Lang Syne".

When Lois and I saw this episode the first time it was broadcast, we had just celebrated our second Christmas as a family of 4. Alison, our elder daughter was 3 years 4 months old and little Sarah 18 months.

Christmas 1978: Alison opens a Christmas present.
She was very excited, I think....

Lois and Sarah - it was
little Sarah's second Christmas

Auld Lang Syne: I always find it touching to see New Year's Eves from "lang syne" (ha ha ha). I think of people's eternal optimism towards the coming year, and I think of the year they actually got (1979 in this case). For my part, it was mostly a very good year, and as a supporter of the conservative party, I was very pleased that Maggie Thatcher became prime minister. Maybe others may not agree with me, but it gave me a lot of satisfaction personally, I have no doubts about that!

Maggie: Flashback to May 1979: Maggie Thatcher becomes prime minister,
And (in my view) frees us for all time from socialism and the power of the unions - hurray!

Happy days !!!!!

On the negative side of the year 1979, I was not so happy to see the poor Shah being expelled from Iran. Poor Shah!!! It wasn’t your fault that you were a nice man!! Come back, Shah, all is forgiven !!!!

It's nostalgic for me to hear "Auld Lang Syne" again. When I was a teenager, I was a member of a pop group, along with Steve, my brother, and Gill, my sister: the group's name was "The Three Dogs." We recorded a demo disc in 1965, where we interpreted this old song, but we could not be bothered to find a record company and try to get a recording contract. It was just too much trouble! A couple of years ago, I posted the recording up on YouTube instead, and at the time this blog went to press, the video had been viewed 68 times, although in an indeterminate number of cases it may have been me or my sister who looked at it.

22:00 We go to bed – zzzzzzzz!!!!!

04:30 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

07:30 The screen on our computer suddenly goes black, or rather goes white - damn! Is it the computer or the screen having a problem? I do not know - I'm unfortunately no expert. Damn (again)! It's fortunate that I have my laptop, which I can also use.

08:00 I go to the kitchen and make two cups of tea. I take them up into the bedroom and hop into bed with Lois. We drink the tea and go in the shower. We get up and have breakfast.

09:00 We drive over to the Blooms garden centre and buy more tomato plants and two gro-bags.

We drive home. Bob, our neighbour, is in the process of repairing one of the gate posts in front of his house. We fix it with him that he will pop in on Monday to repair the wall under the window in Alison's old room where we have a suspected damp problem.

10:30 Lois and I relax with a cup of coffee on the couch.I find an old 14 inch monitor under one of the beds in Alison's old room and connect it to our big computer - it works fine, which is a bit of relief, although there is no sound on it for one reason or another. Damn!

Sarah, our youngest daughter, and Francis, her husband, left a monitor in our garage when they moved to Australia in December 2015. When I feel a little stronger, I will try it out, but the snag with it is that the screen is very big and we have only a small desk to put it on - damn it!

Sarah, Francis and their 3 and a half-year-old twins, Lily and Jessica, travelled yesterday to the Margaret River region, located a little south of their home in Perth. Today they visited a local winery.

12:00 Lois and I have lunch and then we spend the afternoon in bed, which is not like us. But it's fun and refreshing to change the routine every now and then, we know that for sure!

16:15 We roll out of bed and have a cup of tea on the couch.
