Selve hans egen mor fandt ham grim.

18:00 Lois and I have dinner and then we listen to the radio, an interesting programme all about cosplay and dressing up.

We have long been interested in dressing up. We are both a little introverted and shy, and dressing up gives us more confidence both in our relationship and in society. This interest started in 1983 when we visited Williamsburg, Virginia and bought a bunch of clothes and fun accessories in the style of clothes dating from the colonial era.

We also prepared costumes for a "French theme" party, where we dressed as Abelard, the medieval French monk, and as Eloise, Abelard's student (no photos available unfortunately). I wore Abelard's sandals for many years, but they finally became too worn and I had to throw them away when we were in Australia last year.

Also, the theme of the 1980s is a lot of fun in our opinion: I was into the "mullet" hairstyle and rolled up the sleeves on my jacket like a genuine “new romantic”, and Lois had her "ra-ra" skirt on.

Such fun!!!! Happy days !!!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzz !!!!

04:00 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

08:00 I jump into bed with Lois and we drink our morning tea. We get up and have breakfast.

10:00 We talk a little on whatsapp with Sarah, our daughter in Perth, Australia, and with her 4-year-old twins, Lily and Jessica. The whole family is ill at the moment - very bad colds, which is a bit of a shame. They are still trying to find a house near the ocean (Mullaloo beach and surrounding area?). They do not like Leederville, a small suburb of Perth, where they live at the moment, for some reason.

Sarah is very impatient for Lois and me to visit them again in the spring (2018) - yikes, decisions decisions !!!!

Lois and I think Sarah's children are absolutely charming and they speak English very well now. They have not forgotten us, despite the fact that they have not seen us for over a year. They tell us how much they love us, which is very sweet.

10:30 I get going with finishing the mowing of our biggest lawn. I tried to do it yesterday, but it started to rain heavily.

12:00 We have lunch and afterwards I go to bed and take a short afternoon nap.

13:45 I get up and drive into town. I take part in Lynda's "Making of English" group's monthly meeting in the town's Everyman Theater, where we discuss Sir Orfeo, a Middle English poem. Members take turns to read about 25 lines aloud and translate into English.

Sir Orfeo was an English king whose wife, Heurodis, was abducted by the king of the fairies, something which at that time was always a bit of a risk, especially if your wife was beautiful.

But the story has a happy ending - Sir Orfeo succeeds in finding his way to the Fairy King's castle and charms him by playing his lyre in a particularly attractive way. The Fairy King gives Sir Orfeo back his wife, but he is a little reluctant and unenthusiastic about it because, as he points out, Heurodis is so beautiful while Sir Orfeo is so ugly, thin and has a very dark skin: but first and foremost, he was really ugly , I mean - and I cannot stress that too much! Even his mother found him ugly. Good grief - what madness !!!!

Some members of the group point out that by the time that Sir Orfeo took his wife home with him she had already been to bed with the Fairy King thousands of times - it took Sir Orfeo a hell of time to find her - 10 years, according to the author of the poem.

And the Fairy King was a very handsome man, unlike Sir Orfeo, her husband, who was known for his ugliness, but the poet does not comment on whether Heurodis was happy to go home with her husband or not. The group's unanimous opinion is that she can't have been jumping for joy.

But it was fortunate that Heurodis never got pregnant while staying with the Fairy King. Half-cast children found it easy to feel out of it when they started going to school. Poor children !!!!

16:00 The group meeting ends and I drive home again. Lois and I relax with a cup of tea on the couch.
