(Emilia Fox), i BBC-serien ”Tavst vidne”.
Emilia Fox
normalt
i retten – du godeste!
Unødvendigt at sige, at
Sarah, vores datter i Perth i Australien, har sendt mig to charmerende
billeder of sine 3,5-årige tvillinger, Lily og Jessica. Familien flytter i

men

Man

op. Vi spiser morgenmad.
09:30 Vi skal ud. Vi kører over

Hun siger, at
time, før kampen starter.
Men stadiets
English translation
18:00 Lois and I are very tired
tonight, but we are glad that Ross has cleaned our carpets, sofa and armchairs.
We sit in the living room, where there is no furniture except the couch, two
armchairs and a television. The carpet is almost dry, and we are too tired to
spend another night sitting on the dining room chairs.
We eat dinner and spend the
evening listening to the radio or watching TV. We hear an interesting radio
program, "The Last Word".
We have a habit of listening to
this program every week because we want to find out if anyone in the last 1-2
weeks has died or not (I have noticed that most weeks there are only about 5
deaths so no need to panic!). The program's host is the charming Matthew Bannister.
Margaret Pereira, the famous
police forensic scientist has unfortunately died at the age of 88. I have
noticed that it has now become the norm that forensic technicians in television
dramas are sexy women like Sam Ryan (played by Amanda Burton) or Nikki
Alexander (Emilia Fox), in the BBC series "Silent witness".
Emilia Fox
Nikki Alexander - nowadays the police
forensic technicians
are usually sexy women - my god!
But when Margaret Pereira started
her career in the 1950s in the London police crime laboratory, it was
unprecedented to hire a woman, and for a few years, according to laboratory
rules, she was not allowed to testify in court - my god! When the rules changed
and finally she testified for the first time, the lab insisted that she wore a
hat which the laboratory bought for her. When another woman joined the
department, they both had to share this "official" hat when they were
in court. Needless to say that the men did not have to wear hats! My god - what
madness !!!!
She testified in fact so often
that the press called her "Miss Murder" - my god! She was involved in
many famous criminal cases, for example, Lord Lucan, who was
"convicted" in his absence by a coroner's jury of the murder of
his family's nanny, Sandra Rivett - he had to flee the country and has never
been found. It was Margaret who examined a piece of lead piping that was found
in a car that Lucan borrowed and later abandoned. She found out that the lead
pipe was stained with the nanny's blood, and this was the most important
element in the evidence.
She is most famous for developing
a new technique to determine blood type from a minute amount of blood.
The technique is called the "Nicholson-Pereira technique" and is now
used worldwide. In the past, the traces of blood had to be as big as a penny -
if smaller, they could not be used – oh dear!
Mary Tyler Moore, the famous
American actress, has unfortunately also died at the age of 80. When both Lois
and I were teenagers, we saw Mary every week acting in the famous sitcom, the
Dick Van Dyke Show, as Dick's wife.
Lois says it was the first sitcom
that showed a married couple who were apparently in love with each other. In
the past people had thought it was more amusing if the couple were not
emotionally close, and usually the wife was portrayed as empty-headed and
frivolous, with shopping as her only hobby - oh dear!
Of course, it was nevertheless
separate beds whenever Dick and Mary were finished for the day, but Lois says it was
a step forward that the beds were in the same room - my god, what madness !!!!
Dick and Mary were not allowed
to share a bed - What madness !!!
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz !!!
04:00 I get up early and do one
of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.
Sarah, our daughter in Perth, Australia,
has sent me two charming pictures of her three and a half-year-old twins, Lily and
Jessica. The family is moving this week into a new house, located in
Leederville, a small suburb of Perth, not far from Osbourne Park, where Sarah
works.
Sarah has sent me these two pictures of
her three and a half-year-old twins, Lily and
Jessica.
We see them playing with soap bubbles. How
cute they are !!!!
Meanwhile, our oldest daughter,
Alison, is on holiday in Bergen this weekend with her husband, Ed, and their
old friends, Robin and Emma. Ali and Ed traveled to Bergen yesterday from their
home in Copenhagen. They have posted a charming photo on Instagram.
Photo taken from Ali and Ed's balcony in
their hotel room in Bergen
This photo makes me to remember the night Lois
and I spent in Bergen in September 1970 at the
start of our first holiday alone together.
Flashback to September 1970: Lois and I
spent the night in Bergen
at the beginning of our first holiday alone
together.
This photo was taken looking in the same
direction as Ali’s photo
but on the other side of the fjord.
You can see the road that leads up the hill
behind the harbour, also
on the far right the cathedral’s green
tower.
Lois (aged 24) at Lake Mos (Hardanger Fjord) in 1970.
07:30 I hurry into the kitchen
and make two cups of tea. I take them up to the bedroom and crawl under the
covers with Lois. We drink the tea and get up. We eat breakfast.
09:30 We have to go out. We drive
over to Leckhampton. We buy a few things at the local Coop supermarket and
greengrocer's, also ready-meals at CookShop. We drive home and relax with a cup
of coffee on the sofa.
12:30 We eat lunch and afterwards
I go to bed and take a giant nap - zzzzzz !!!
15:00 I get up and take a little
look at the web. I see that Alison, our oldest daughter, has posted another
charming photo up on Instagram showing Ed, her husband and their old friends
from England, Robin and Emma. Today, the two couples are going on a cruise on
the fjord.
Ed, our (bearded) son-in-law, along with
Robin and Emma, in Bergen
I get a text
message from Sarah, our daughter in Perth in Australia. She says she and
Francis, her husband, have begun moving furniture and possessions from their
current house in Yanchep into their new house in Leederville, also clearing up
some of the old house and doing a bit of weeding in the garden. They must leave
the house in good condition, otherwise they could forfeit their deposit - oh
dear!
I take a
little look at the influential US news website, The Onion. I see that the
tickets for tomorrow's Super Bowl will go on sale up to one hour before the
match starts. It sounds as if the stadium has made extraordinary preparations
to cope with the expected demand for tickets: they are employing 12 people to
sell the approximately 72,000 tickets. The planning seems to be as good as ever
- no doubt about it!
Unfortunately,
it will not be possible to buy tickets by credit card. But the stadium
authorities have advised spectators to show up at least 15 minutes before the
ticket windows open up, to be absolutely sure of getting a ticket, so I suspect
that everything will go smoothly, as always. I foresee no problem, thank God! I
will unfortunately have fallen asleep before the match starts, but I wish good
luck to both teams, whoever they are! Go, either team A or team B!!!!
Super Bowl ticket windows will this year
open up to 15 minutes
before the match starts, to avoid long lines
forming - hurrah!
16:00 Lois and
I relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.
