Hun spillede det ældste Von Trapp barn, Liesl, i Sound of Music.

Mig i Kijkduin, Holland i 1965.

Jeg læser 8 sider af min ”godnatbog”: ”1812: Napoleon’s Fatal March on Moscow” af Adam Zamoyski (uofficielle underoverskrift - Napoleon:  Their Part in his Downfall). Så glider jeg over i søvn zzzzz!!!! (drift off to sleep).

Hun kører hjem igen, men parkerer bilen i Borgergade i stedet for foran huset, fordi der i morgen finder sted byens halv-maratonløb.

17:00 I listen a little to the radio, an interesting program called "The Last Word", because I want to know if anyone in the past 1-2 weeks has died or not. It turns out that only 5 people died - hurrah, so do not panic! I have noticed that in most weeks there are only about 5 deaths. I do not know if anyone in the past week has been born or not (it's something the program is silent about), So I assume that the world's population has fallen by 5 too.

It turns out that Charmion Carr died at 63 years old, having for many years suffered from dementia. She played the eldest Von Trapp child, Liesl, in The Sound of Music. Her mother suggested her for the Liesl-role to the director, because she looked much younger than she actually was (23 years old, not "16 going on 17"). Nicholas Hammond, who played the family's oldest son, Friedrich, who was then 15 years, was "hot" for Charmion, but he says that she used her time to drink with Christopher Plummer - my goodness, such goings-on!

In our family we recorded the movie on VHS in the 1980s, and our two young daughters loved it, so we ended up seeing it many times.

Charmian Carr played Liesl, the eldest Von Trapp child (and was not
the sweet teenager she looked like !!!)

Edward Albee, American dramatist, has also died, at 88 years. He is most famous in Britain for his play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf".

When I was a teenager, my parents went on holiday to Holland with us three children. We stayed for three weeks in The Hague in a private residence, whose owner was abroad. In the house were lots of Dutch books. I could then speak a little Dutch, and I took an interest in the homeowner's books. I saw "Wie is er bang for Virginia Woolf" on the shelf and I decided to read it. What an annoying kid I was at that time - I have no doubt about THAT !!!!

the English version, with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton on the cover

The Dutch version that I managed to read, like the annoying kid I was - oh dear!

Me in Kijkduin, Holland in 1965. Yes, what an annoying little kid !!!!

17:30 I get an email from Alison, our oldest daughter who lives in Copenhagen along with Ed, her husband and their 3 children: Josie (10), Rosalind (8) and Isaac (6). Alison says that they are not going to get other guests at Christmas, and they will be happy for Lois and me to visit them again, like last year - hurrah! I will try to book flights this weekend.

18:00 We have dinner and then we spend the evening watching TV. They show Grand Designs, with Kevin McCloud as the program's charming host.

The couple in tonight's episode is an English carpenter and his Japanese partner, who would like to build a wooden house in Cambridgeshire, around Ely.

It is really surprising how many times we see couples in this show where the woman is oriental - maybe they do not like typical English houses, and force their men to build something different - my god!

I must admit that the new house looks very beautiful - both inside and outside.

I have to admit that the new house looks very beautiful from both inside and outside

But in my opinion, the house would be very difficult to live in. There is a huge living room that includes the kitchen, dining area and sofa area, and you can also look down into the living room from the first floor - oh dear! There are no carpets so it must be very very very noisy in the house - no doubt about it. And the acoustics must be horrible! And imagine how it sounds when the TV is on!

A gigantic living room without carpets: it must be
very very very noisy in the house - no doubt about it !!!

21:00 We continue to watch TV. They show "Joanna Lumley's Japan" (Part three).

Tonight she visits Nagasaki and sees the huge shipyards, such as the Mitsubishi shipyard, which I saw in 1971 when I was a student. It is very nostalgic for me to see the city and the shipyards again after 45 years - my goodness. I am getting old - I know that for sure!

22:00 We go to bed. I read 8 pages of my "goodnight book": "1812: Napoleon's Fatal March on Moscow" by Adam Zamoyski (unofficial subtitle - Napoleon: Their Part in his Downfall). Then I drift off to sleep - zzzzz !!!!.

5:00 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests. I make two cups of tea and bring them up to our bedroom. We get up and eat breakfast.

09:00 Lois drives over to the local Sainsbury's supermarket. Yesterday she bought a bright red skirt size 12, and it was a little too tight when she tried it on here at home. She would like to exchange it for a size 14. We are both currently on a diet, but it turned out that the size 12 was a little too optimistic - damn!

She drives back home, but parks the car on Borgergade instead of in front of the house, because in the morning the city's half-marathon takes place. The road our house is on will be closed for several hours, and she needs to get to Tewkesbury to attend two church services - my goodness, life is sometimes hard, I'm sure of that!

10:00 We go out in the backyard and pick cooking apples off one of our two apple trees.

12:30 We eat lunch and then I go to bed and take a gigant afternoon nap - zzzzz !!!!

15:00 I get up. Lois pops in to the neighbor's (Mary), to drink a cup of tea and eat a piece of cake. I relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.
