Lykkelige dage!!!  Men farvel søde drømme!

17:30 I jump up on my exercise bike and I clock up 9 more miles (15km), and afterwards I do a little mild weight lifting, as usual. I put the year back by one and look at 1969's best songs on YouTube while cycling, and I try to remember the part played by 1969 in my life, in an attempt to postpone dementia ha ha ha.

I look at 1969's best songs while cycling

I later find that I have very few pictures that date from 1969. I was studying at university at the time (my last year of study, which ended in June 1969), and like many students, I had postponed my serious studying to the last minute before my final exams.

I got my driver's licence in January 1969. I have kept the postcard that informed me about my upcoming driving test - my goodness, I AM mad – my mother should have had me tested!!! The driving test was fixed for 12:15, a good time because it was not rush hour and traffic was not that heavy - hurrah !!!

flashback to January 1969 - I got my driver's licence. Hurrah !!!!

June / July 1969 - I visit the village of Binsey, a little
outside Oxford, along with my sister Kathy and my mother.
We sit at the entrance to an old well in the churchyard.

August 1969: I visit the town of Llantwit Major in the county of Glamorgan,
where some of my mother's ancestors lived many years ago.

Happy days! But goodbye sweet dreams! Back to reality...

18:00 Lois and I eat dinner and spend the rest of the evening watching TV. An interesting documentary is on, dealing with the government's attempts to spy on Edward, Prince of Wales, in 1935-1936.

An interesting programme about an interesting two-year period, although the programme-makers exaggerate the "shocking" aspects of the case. The programme's voiceover sounds a little creepy, which increases the dramatic effect, but actually there was nothing illegal in the government's activities. The program decided for some reason not to highlight the fact that our monarchy is only a colorful historical tradition, which we like to preserve. The real power lies with the people and government they elect. If the government suspects that the monarch is a security risk (and there were many reasons to suspect Edward), then the government has every right to investigate them. Tell me, who is boss here !!!!!

It is interesting to hear that Edward had a careless attitude to confidential documents. He took them with him when he went on holiday, or when he spent the night with friends. It reminds me of what they say about Trump. My goodness - there's nothing new under the sun, I know that for sure !!!!!

21:00 We turn off the TV and Lois puts Minx, Alison's cat, to bed, with a helping of "midnight feast".

21:15 I turn on the radio. I want to hear a radio program, an old episode of an interesting program, the BBC's longest-running radio series "Desert Island Discs", which first aired in 1942.

The series is based on asking a celebrity each week to imagine that he / she has been stranded on a desert island. During the program he is asked to talk about his life and / or career, and to choose the eight "gramophone records", he would most like to have on hand to entertain himself in his solitary existence. A simple idea, but a very long-running series, perhaps the world's longest - I have no doubts about that!

But Lois suddenly rushes back into the room. She forgot to tell me that she would rather see another tv documentary, one about the moon. It is not like her to choose a scientific program, but that's fair enough, although we have unfortunately had to miss out on the first 15 minutes. And we like the program's charming host, astronomer Maggie Aderin-Pocock, and her excitable style and voice - my goodness! But we would not like to be in the same street as her (or same town!) when she gets orgasms - that is something we know for sure !!!!

The program's host is the charming astronomer,
Maggie Aderin-Pocock. We love her excitable style and voice !!!

A very interesting documentary. We did not know that the earth originally did not have a moon, until another planet as big as Mars collided with the earth (only a glancing blow) billions of years ago, and the moon was formed from a "slice" of the earth, which flew away - my goodness! We are very happy that we were not alive then!

The moon was in the beginning only 14.000 miles away from Earth. Brain corals have small grooves that tell us how long days were in the past, and it turns out that a day was only five hours long when the moon was first formed, because of the moon's nearness. The moon's gravity caused the earth to rotate more quickly then - my goodness! A five-hour day - what madness !!!!

Scientists can now measure very accurately the distance between earth and moon, and it turns out that every year the moon moves one and a half inches (3.78 cm) farther away from the earth - my goodness, what madness (again) !!!!

Lunar gravity helps to stabilize the Earth's tilt and create the seasons. When the moon moves further away, this gravity will become weaker, and the earth and the seasons will sink into chaos. Stop the world, we want to get off !!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzzz !!!!

05:50 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

08:15 I toddle into the kitchen and make two cups of tea. I take them up to the bedroom and jump into bed with Lois. We drink the tea and take a shower. We get up and eat breakfast.

10:15 Vince, a local gardener, comes over. Lois called him last week. He looks around in the front yard and backyard - we have a lot of moss, more moss than grass, and a fox has dug a lot of holes. Vince will try, if possible, to come again tomorrow, rake over the grass, remove the moss, lay seeds in the bare patches etc.

11:30 I sit down at my laptop and I prepare a Danish vocabulary test that I want our U3A Danish group members to try on Wednesday during the group's next meeting. The 28 correct answers spell "April has its very own weather: rain and sunshine come together," (but in Danish!). The right answers are top secret until Wednesday at 16, needless to say ha ha ha !!!

12:30 We eat lunch. Then I read the next 11 pages of the Danish short story our U3A Danish group is currently reading. The body count is growing around our poor country cop Janson - it has gone up to 6 - my goodness, after only 35 pages !!! They are dropping like flies - and apart from Mrs. Marsh, the victims were all born in 1976 - help, this is seriously creepy !!!!

a typical Danish village constable

15:00 I go out in the backyard and do a bit of weeding between fruit bushes. My goodness - all this gardening, is it keeping us in shape, or is it breaking us completely ????? We are not quite sure - a bit of both perhaps.

16:00 We come back into the house and relax with a cup of tea. Lois explains why the French army lost the battle of Waterloo.

Lois explains with hand gestures
why the French army lost the battle of Waterloo!

It will soon be time to go public with her theory !!!!!!
