Claude ”Curly”
Putnam D.Ø.D.E. desværre, den, der komponerede mange berømte C&W sange,
herunder ”D.I.V.O.R.C.E” og ”Green Green Grass of Home”. Stakkels Curly!!!!
Robert Vaughn, den amerikanske skuespiller, døde også. Lois og jeg kan
tydeligt huske de tørsdag aftner i 1960’erne, da vi begge to (i vores
respektive huse – vi var ikke kærester endnu) plejede at se Top of the Pops kl
19:30 og bagefter ”The Man from U.N.C.L.E”, stjernespækket Robert V.A.U.G.H.N,
Vaughn optrådte i mange berømte film, herunder ”Syv mænd sejrer”.
fjernsyn. Lois er desværre lidt forkølet – uha! De viser et gammelt afsnit af
Top of the Pops fra august 1982.
en nærliggende moderne by. Vores først opgave var at vælge møblerne, vi ville
leje. Vores to døtre, Alison (7 år) og Sarah (5 år), havde for første gang
luxus!
Undskyld for sidespringet!
gamle vaudeville-teater.
Sarah, vores yngste datter. Du godeste,
lykkelige dage!!!

Hun

byens kirkegård og tilbage igen via Bouncers Lane. Det er hundekoldt – brrrrrr!!!!

16:30 We listen a little to the radio, an interesting program called
"Last Word" because we want to find out if anyone in the last
1-2 weeks died or not.
It turns out that only 5 people
died - hurrah, so do not panic! I have noticed that most weeks there are only
about 5 deaths. Claude "Curly" Putnam D.I.E.D. unfortunately, the man
who composed many famous C & W songs, including "D.I.V.O.R.C.E"
and "Green Green Grass of Home". Poor Curly!!!
Robert Vaughn, the American
actor, also died. Lois and I can clearly remember the Thursday evenings in the
1960s when both of us (in our respective homes - we were not yet lovers) used
to watch Top of the Pops at 7:30pm and afterwards "The Man from U.N.C.L.E"
starring Robert V.A.U.G.H.N, although Lois says she actually fantasized about
Vaughn's co-star, Scottish actor David McCallum, and not about Vaughn himself - poor Vaughn
!!!!
Vaughan actually spent a lot of
time in England and appeared in many British television series, including the
famous soap opera "Coronation Street" set in the county of
Lancashire. My God! Lois and I did not know that!
Vaughn appeared in many famous
films, including "The Magnificent Seven". It is interesting that many
years later he chose this film's title tune as his mobile's ringtone - an
anecdote that gives an illustration of his many human and down to earth
characteristics, I think.
17:00 I jump up on my exercise
bike and I ride 6 miles (10km). Hooray! Now I know for sure that I can get well
again!
18:00 We eat dinner and then
spend the evening watching TV. Lois unfortunately has a slight cold - oh dear!
They show an old episode of Top of the Pops from August 1982.
Lois and I did not see this
program when it was first broadcast in 1982, because we had just moved to the
US, where we lived for 3 years. We stayed temporarily at the Howard Johnson
motel in Laurel, Md before moving into a nice house in Columbia, a nearby
modern city. Our first task was to choose the furniture we wanted to rent. Our
two daughters, Alison (7 years) and Sarah (5 years), had their own rooms for
the first time and had a lot of fun choosing what they wanted when it came to
bedroom furniture, including small four poster beds - my god, what a luxury !
Apologies for the digression - I must stick to the subject! Lois and I sit and watch the old episode
from 1982. We find out that the songs in the UK charts back then were mostly a
load of junk, but there were some new singers who appeared for the first time,
such as Thomas Dolby and Talk Talk. In 1982, Lois and I saw these singers for
the first time a little later, on American television (MTV).
20:00 We continue to watch TV.
They show an old episode of "The Good Old Days", a television program
that tries to recreate the atmosphere of the old vaudeville theater.
The program was first broadcast
in January 1977. Lois and I had at that time only one daughter, Alison (17
months), and Lois was 4 months pregnant with Sarah, our youngest daughter. My
god, happy days !!!

For our part, the highlight is
(as always) the Italian juggler. It's a shame that nowadays we rarely see Italian
jugglers any more - why not? It is interesting that this juggler went wrong
sometimes and dropped his balls and other objects on the floor, but the
tv-company did not bother to shoot these parts of the act again - we lived in
simpler times back then, I am quite sure of that!!!!

actress, appears dressed as a ghost and singing a naughty song from 1903, “The
Ghost of Sarah Porter”. She plays the role of a deceased mother-in-law that
comes back to haunt her daughter and her son-in-law anytime they start having
sex. I suppose she thinks, "I'm dead, so now I do not care if I get
grandchildren or not.” My God! What madness !!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz !!!!!
05:45 I get up early and do one
of my routine Danish vocabulary tests. Afterwards I hurry into the kitchen and
make two cups of tea. I bring them up to our bedroom and crawl back into our
bed. We drink the tea and get up. We eat breakfast.
09:00 We go down to the local
butcher's (Waghornes) to buy meat and bread. On the way home we pop into the
local convenience store (Bakery Stores) and buy fruit and vegetables. It is
very cold, and for the first time there is also ice on the sidewalk - oh dear!
We get home and relax with a cup of extra-hot tea on the couch.
13:00 We eat lunch.
14:30 We go for a short walk in
the neighborhood (1 mile). Our route: Priorsvej to the city cemetery and back
again via Bouncers Lane. It's freezing - brrrrrr !!!! We get home and we relax
with an extra hot cup of cocoa on the couch.
