"Suggs" i dag, "bibliofilen?"

"Suggs" i 1980’erne: "idioten"????

16:30 We talk a bit on Skype with Alison, our oldest daughter, who 4 years ago moved to Copenhagen, along with Ed, her husband, and their three children, Josie (now 10 years), Rosalind (8) and Isaac (6) .

We talk a bit with Alison and grandchildren on Skype.
It's "November 7"(Australian time - I must get on with setting
the camera's clock back eight hours. But where are the instructions??? !!!)

Ed is not at home, he has gone for a jog with one of the family's English friends. It is a lot of fun to talk to them about their lives in Denmark, and about the fun things the kids have done, including the way they celebrated Halloween, "in a strange land"! They have a lot of fun dressing up as scary creatures and taking part in "Trick or Treat" activities - that, I know for sure!

and Isaac (the green skeleton) along with their young friends

18:00 We have dinner and spend the rest of the evening watching TV. They show "Books That Made Britain" (the second part of the series), an interesting documentary with a stupid title that focuses on books that reflect different regions of the country. Last week they talked about books set in East Anglia. Tonight they are talking about books set in London. The program's host is "Suggs", the former lead singer of "Madness," a pop group that was very popular in the 1980s.

It is fortunate that Suggs talks about Charles Dickens's books because Lois and I have never heard of the other authors in the program - oh dear! It is interesting to see Suggs, now in his 50s, and find out that he loves books and is an intelligent man. In the 1980s, when he was a popular singer, we assumed that he was an idiot, like all the others ha ha ha!

"Suggs" today (the bibliophile?)

"Suggs" in 1980 - (the idiot????)

21:00 We continue to watch TV. They show the fourth and final episode of "Tutankhamun," a drama about Howard Carter, the famous archaeologist who found the young king's tomb in1922.

A quite sad episode but very moving. Lord Carnarvon, Carter's patron cuts himself while shaving, and dies shortly afterwards of blood poisoning - poor Carnarvon !!!! Lois points out that there were no antibiotics in the old days, so many people died of pretty minor things. Poor Carnarvon (again) !!!!!

When Carnarvon dies, his family becomes impoverished because of inheritance taxes and other debts, so his pretty daughter, Lady Evelyn, has to stop going to bed with Carter and marry a baronet instead. My god, poor Carter !!!! He had planned to give her an ancient Egyptian brooch, but when he hears of Lady Evelyn's marriage plans, he decides to put it back in the young king's coffin instead. How touching  (and honest !!!!!).  But I think the (unidentified) baronet has got a very favorable deal - I have no doubt of THAT !!!!

Lady Evelyn must stop going to bed with Carter
and marry a baronet instead - poor Carter !!!!!

22:00 Sarah, our daughter in Perth, Australia, is already on the way by train from Butler to Stirling, to start her second week at the new job. Poor Sarah!Poor everyone!!!!

We go to bed - zzzzz !!!!!

05:00 I get up. Today is going to be a very bad day for me, because I have an appointment with Josh, our new dentist at 12:10. I am not much looking forward to seeing Josh - he thinks I have one cavity to be filled, but actually I have two - oh dear! It will not be a pleasant experience - I'm quite sure! But it may be that he will not have time to fill the second cavity, and will postpone the work until the next time.

I do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests, and afterwards I hurry into the kitchen and make two cups of tea. I bring them up to our bedroom and I crawl back into our bed. We drink the tea and take a shower. We get up and eat breakfast.

11:00 I eat lunch, one hour earlier than usual, because I'm going to the dentist's clinic in about half an hour.

11:45 I drive over to the dentist's clinic and sign in at the clinic's reception ten minutes before my appointment. The secretary tells me sadly that Josh is already (at least 30 minutes) late with his patients. Damn! In fact, I sit and wait nearly one hour in the clinic ‘s waiting room, before I am called in - my god! I am madly nervous when I finally sit down in the treatment-chair - no doubt about it !!!

Unfortunately, Josh only has the time to fill one cavity today. I have to get another appointment in January so he can fill the other one. The nightmare continues!!!!

14:00 I come back home and go to bed. I take a gigantic afternoon nap - zzzzzz !!!

16:00 I get up and we relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.
