I aften
Unødvendigt at sige
mere!!!!
svær at forstå.
English translation
17:00 I jump up on my exercise bike and I ride 6 miles
(10km). Hooray! Now I know I can get well again! But I look back on my blog,
and I see that I have cycled a distance of 6 miles only 4 times in 2016 - darn!
I'm being lazy - there is no doubt! Although it is true that we were in
Australia for 3 months, and over there I could not of course do cycling. I
should not be too hard on myself!
18:00 We have dinner and then we spend the evening watching
TV.
They show Grand Designs, a TV series, where (mostly) sad, neurotic,
perfectionist men (and their partners), occupied by a whim, design, and get
built, huge ugly houses with huge rooms, uncomfortable sofas, huge heavy dining
tables and huge windows without curtains or blinds. They are mostly people with
no real hobbies, people who love to hold dinner parties, and to stand and look
all day at beautiful views: people who do not care what their neighbors think:
people who have no knowledge of history, and have no historical sense.
Tonight a man named Clinton plans a huge house that looks
like a small airport terminal. The house is as large as 7 normal houses. The
great room (living area, kitchen area, dining area) is gigantic: his sofa is 5
meters long - my goodness! What a crazy world we live in !!!
The new house looks like a local
airport terminal
the owner lives alone. Why does he need
a huge table and 4 sun loungers?
Why does he need a 5m long sofa?
Why does he need a huge double bed?
It seems that Clinton is a divorced man with four or five
children, but mostly he lives alone. I suspect that the children live with
their mother. Why does he need such a huge house? There is no clutter anywhere
throughout the house, so what does he occupy himself with when he's at home?
The answer lies in the house itself: he has his own private pool, its own
private gym, its own private spa, and a huge television. Need I say more !!!!
21:00 We continue to watch TV. They show an interesting
documentary that is about Holkam Hall in Norfolk, where the Earl of Leicester
lives.
Holkham Hall
I must admit that we rarely see in this kind of program,
but we decide to watch it because the host is Phil Spencer, who looks around the
palace not as a historian but like an uncultured realtor - my goodness, what a
crazy world we live in !
Lois and I holidayed in Norfolk 2 years ago and we tried
to visit Holkam Hall, but when we showed up, we found out that the castle was
closed - my goodness, what a mix-up!
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz !!!!!
05:00 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish
vocabulary tests. Afterwards, I make two cups of tea and bring them up to our
bedroom. We lie in bed and drink the tea. We get up and eat breakfast.
09:30 We have to be off. We drive over to Maggie's house.
Maggie is a friend who intends to sell her house in Leckhampton and move into a
nursing home in Birmingham. She has a small cupboard that she keeps her music
books in, and she wants to pass the cupboard on to us. We pick up the cupboard
and drink a cup of tea in Maggie's living-room. Afterwards, we head over to the
Cook Shop in Leckhampton and buy three ready meals. We can use these ready
meals when we are very tired and do not feel like cooking - hooray!
11:30 We get home and eat lunch. Afterwards I go to bed
and take a long nap - zzzzz !!!!!
15:00 I get up and I look a little at my Anglo-Saxon
grammars. I am a member of a U3A group (group name is "The Making of
English"), which deals with the history of the English language, and holds
monthly meetings. The Group's next meeting will take place on Friday.
I'm a
little angry at the group's leader, Lynda, because she waited until yesterday
to send the details to members of the group about what we are discussing on
Friday. She has chosen a text that is very long and difficult to understand. My
Goodness!
I flip through my grammar-books and write the main points on a single
page of paper - hurray! Now I can try to understand the text, which is an
excerpt from Ælfrics "De Temporibus Anni" which is about the creation
of the world.
Ælfric – what a long time ago he lived –
no doubt about that!
Ælfric wrote the text in the 993. My goodness! What a long time ago it was!
