Wednesday, August 24 at 1630 to Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 1629

18:00 We eat dinner in the living room.

19:00 Lois has to go off. Her church is holding a business meeting tonight in Tewkesbury, which she wants to participate in. So therefore I have a little time alone tonight, so I decide to watch TV - no surprise there!

They show Grand Designs, a TV series, where (mostly) neurotic men (and their partners) design, and get built, huge ugly houses with huge rooms, uncomfortable sofas, huge heavy dining tables and huge windows without curtains or blinds. They are mostly people with no real hobbies, people who love to hold dinner parties, and to stand and look all day at beautiful views: people who do not care what their neighbors think: people who have no knowledge of history, and no historical sense.

The evening's program is a little different from the usual. The program's host, Kevin McCloud, who always praises these ugly houses to the skies, looks back on the 15 years he has presented the series, and concentrates on the houses that have been built out in the country.

we see the usual ugly modern houses that look like factories or farm buildings,
that manage to spoil a beautiful historic landscape

We see the usual ugly buildings also from inside, with their huge atrocious living rooms, combining kitchen, dining and living room, where you cannot concentrate or have peace and quiet around you. We see the usual waste of space, and the usual huge tables with too many chairs, chairs that are too heavy, and uncomfortable sofas that are too low and deep and cause back pain - my goodness!

we see the usual ugly living rooms with their ghastly high ceilings and lots of wasted space!

the neurotic people who have these ugly houses built do not have any real hobbies, but love to hold frequent dinner parties where their friends stand and talk - my goodness, have they nothing in their heads ???!

21:00 I sit at our computer and I design my wedding card for Lois. Tomorrow is our 44th wedding anniversary. I decide to use 4 pictures of us as a couple, which were taken in 4 different continents:

Japan (1971)

USA (1985)

Denmark (2015)

Australia (2016)

22:30 Lois comes back late and we go to bed - zzzz !!!!

05:00 I get up early and do one of my routine Danish vocabulary tests.

08:00 I hurry into the kitchen and make two cups of tea. I bring them up to our bedroom. We lie in bed and drink the tea. Today is our 44th wedding anniversary, so we exchange anniversary cards. We take a shower.

09:00 We get up and eat breakfast.

10:30 We drive over to Hampton Court Castle to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The castle is located not far from Leominster near the English / Welsh border. We pop in at the castle café and have lunch. Then we look round the palace gardens, and finally we take a tour to see the castle from the inside.

15:00 We go home and relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.
