Skynd jer! Gå i gang!!!!

Klokken er 07:29. Jeg går forbi Simpsons, Englands nuværende bedste fish-and-chip shop – hurra! Men det står stadigvæk ”2013” på skiltet – uha!

08:30 Bob, vores nabo, ringer på døren. Han giver os to ænder-æg – nam nam nam!

18:30 Lois and I eat dinner and then we spend the evening watching TV. They show Top of the Pops, from January 1981: even more John Lennon songs in the sentimental wave that followed the singer's death. My Goodness! Come on people, it's time to get on with life! January 1981 must have been a long month - I know that for sure!

They then show the "The Good Old Days" from April 1973, a program that tried to recreate the atmosphere of the Victorian and Edwardian "music-hall" or "vaudeville" (ie music halls).

It is interesting that the program's host, Leonard Sachs, welcomed a Danish family who sat in the balcony. The family had traveled from Denmark specifically to see the show. I wonder where this family is today!

When Lois and I originally in 1973 saw this show, we were both 26 years old and we had been married only eight months. We lived in 1973 on Kroningsvej, in a house that is only 300 yards from our current house - my goodness, it feels like yesterday! Time really flies - of that I am in no doubt !!!!

1973- Lois in England (Bristol) (aged 26)

1973 - Lois in Wales (aged 26)

1973 Me in Scotland (aged 26)

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz !!!!

3:30 I get up early and take a look at Facebook. I see a charming photo of our 2.5-year-old grandchildren, Lily and Jessica, which our son, Francis, took the other day in Australia. I wonder whether the twins will still remember Lois and me when we visit the family later this year - my goodness!

Our 2.5 year-old "Australian" grandchildren, Jessica (left) and Lily

I also see that the snow currently has almost disappeared in Copenhagen. Our oldest daughter, Alison, has put the following photo up on her Facebook page. The photo shows the international school, which her three children, Josie, Rosalind, and Isaac go to. The snow is almost gone, but some students still bring their sleds with them to enjoy themselves during recess. My Goodness! What a crazy world we live in!

Some students still bring their sleds to school, even though the snow has almost disappeared - oh dear!

07:10 It starts to get light, so I decide to take a short walk in the neighborhood. My route: Bouncers Lane, Priorsvej, Halesvej and back again.

The time is 7:10 and I go for a short walk in the neighborhood
Steve, my American brother-in-law, told me the other day that Simpson's, a local restaurant in Cheltenham, has again won the award for Britain's best fish-and-chip shop. I decide to walk past the shop now to see if they have already updated their sign or not. I find that it still says "2013", the last time the restaurant won the award. Come on, Simpsons! Hurry up! Get going!!!!

The time is 7:29. I walk past Simpsons, England's current best fish-and-chip shop - hurray! But it still says "2013" on the sign - oh dear!

08:30 Bob, our neighbor, rings the doorbell. He gives us two duck eggs - yum yum yum!

11:00 We drive over to Stoke Orchard recycling center to throw out some of the things Sarah and Francis left in our garage when 7 weeks ago they moved to Australia. We go home and relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.

12:00 I go to bed and take me a long nap - zzzzzz! I have now decided to experiment with taking a nap in the late morning, instead of early afternoon. So far, the experiment goes very well!

13:00 I get up and have lunch: Bob's two duck-eggs on toast - nam nam nam!

13:30 Bob doorbell rings again. He presents to me his friend / relative, Phil, who is interested in buying Sarah's and Francis's car (Saab). Phil investigates the car body, and notes that the car's exhaust system is very rusty - oh dear! He asks for a test drive. We drive all three (Phil, Bob and me) in the car almost to Winchcombe town and back again. Phil likes the car, but he offers unfortunately, substantially less than the price Francis indicated. He gives me his email address so Francis and he can haggle with each other - hurray! I do not want to get involved, I know that for sure!

14:00 We call Sarah. We discuss when it would be best for us to visit them. Lois and I would rather visit from September to November, but we sense that Sarah and Francis would rather have us visiting from March to May or April to June. We've been a little worried whether our backyard would become a true jungle, if we are away from home in the spring, but we are aware that we could pay a gardener to come regularly and weed it, cut the grass and so on. We do not know for the moment what it costs to hire a gardener - oh!

In February Sarah will try to find a job in Perth as accountant. She and Francis are happy that they have found in the neighborhood a good play-group that the twins can participate in starting from 1 February.

16:00 Lois and I relax with a cup of tea on the couch ....
