Tak skal du have, James!

10:45 Lois’s gæster begynder at ankomme.

18:00 We have dinner and afterwards Lois has to be off. There is a Bible seminar this evening that takes place in Brockworth, that she wants to participate in.

19:30 I am alone in the house. I spend the evening watching a little television. They show the fifth episode of the second series of "Sorry", an old sitcom from May 1982, starring Ronnie Corbett, the Scottish comedian. The series is about a 41-year-old librarian Timothy Lumsden, who still lives at home with his demanding mother and absent-minded father. We saw this episode for the first time three months before we headed to the US, where we lived for three years.

21:00 Then they show an interesting documentary about James Clerk Maxwell (1831-1879), the Scottish physicist whose name is relatively unknown to the world, but who revolutionized physics. Albert Einstein had only three portraits on his office wall: Isaac Newton, Michael Faraday and James Clerk Maxwell.

Maxwell predicted the existence of invisible electromagnetic waves moving at the speed of light and also predicted that light is such waves. His discovery of electromagnetic radiation was precursor of the modern physics era and laid the foundation for later work in fields like special relativity theory and quantum mechanics.

Maxwell's work was crucial in the removal of the purely mechanical model of the universe (Newton's universe), and made many aspects of modern life possible: for example, radio, television, radar, X-ray, microwave, mobile phone, thermography, remote control, fluorescent light, safety labeling, sterilization of food etc etc. My goodness! Thank you, James!

Maxwell is also known for having created the first real color photography in 1861 - my goodness, what a genius!

Einstein had only three portraits on his office wall: Newton, Faraday and Maxwell - hurray!

22:00 Lois comes home and we go to bed - zzzzzz !!!!

3:15 I get up early and take a look on the internet. I read about a new computer game called "Expeditions: Viking" coming out in 2016. It is interesting that the events of the game do not necessarily remain true to the story. For example, the Vikings can ally with the English rather than plunder them - oh dear! Perhaps this property will make the game more popular in England - English players can, for example ally with the Danes and begin to plunder the French - oh dear (again) !!

a brand new video game coming out in 2016

Also there is an element of political correctness in the game. For example, women play a greater role in the game than the history books report. But this makes both the game more interesting and "inclusive" for female players, according to the Danish game designer. My Goodness! What a crazy world we live in!

for the benefit of female players the game includes an element of political correctness - my goodness, what a madness!

08:00 We take a shower and afterwards begin to clean up and dust everywhere in the house and set the table and so on. Lois has invited nine members of her church for lunch.

09:30 Terry, the local handyman arrives. He started the other day to repair our fence, and today he gets going to complete the work. After 30 minutes of work he's done with it and he leaves. He will send us the bill by mail.

I look a bit on the Internet. Then I key in 100 English sentences that I want our Danish group's members to translate into English. I am so demanding - ha ha ha! The group's next meeting will take place tomorrow at 14:30 at our place.

Then I write a short "essay" in Danish. I have asked the group members to write some lines in Danish, which we can all read together during our meeting (everyone can choose a topic they care about). I decide to write about our youngest daughter, Sarah, and sale of Sarah's old apartment in Cheltenham and sale of Sarah's and Francis's car after her little family moved to Australia at the end of November: the two tasks (especially the sale of the apartment) have taken a lot of our time. We were of course glad to be able to help Sarah, but it was all very stressful - no doubt about it !!!!

10:45 Lois's guests begin to arrive.

15:00 After lunch, the guests have to leave, and Lois and I relax with a cup of tea on the sofa. We are very tired again - oh!
