De viser en interessant dokumentarfilm, ”Stories from the
Dark Earth”. Julian Richards,

Tewkesbury, hun vil deltage i.
efterlod.
Sarah sagde i går på telefon, at hun har for tiden meget travlt. Hun

18:30 Lois and
I eat dinner and then we use the evening to watch TV. They show an interesting
documentary, "Stories from the Dark Earth". Julian Richards, the program's host, was
responsible for a previous program series 'Meet the ancestors', where he
covered the major excavation sites, while work was in progress. Now Julian
Richards has revisited several of these sites (in Suffolk) that contain a
warrior who has been buried together with his horse - my goodness, it's a
strange ritual - no doubt about it! Isotopic studies show that most people in
these cemeteries, that stem from the 5th
century, were born in England.
the Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Lakenheath (Suffolk)
According to
recent studies, the modern English men's DNA is totally different than modern
Welshmen, but almost identical to modern Frisian men. But there is no sign of a
massive invasion after the Roman Empire's fall. I do not know why, but Richards
does not see the obvious conclusion: that England was already packed by
Germanic peoples long before the Roman Empire's fall.
Julian's cards do not show it, but people in Kent (England's southeast corner)
came from Northern Denmark, ie North Jutland
Contemporary English male DNA is virtually identical to modern Frisian male
DNA.
While watching TV, Lois starts to arrange more of the baby-clothes, which
Sarah and Francis left in our house and garage, when they 7 weeks ago, moved to
Australia. My goodness - what a mess! We plan to go on Monday to Gloucester, to
donate several bags of baby clothes to a charity that operates a store in the
city.
Lois begins to arrange more of the baby-clothes, which Sarah and Francis left in our house and garage, when they moved out - oh dear! Minx, Alison and Ed's cat tries to help Lois by sitting on her lap!
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzz !!!!!
3:45 I get up early and take a look on the internet.
9:45 Lois has to be off. There are two services, which today take place in
Tewkesbury, she wants to participate in. I am alone in the house. I begin to
iron my shirts, pajamas and underwear.
Then I throw in our bin and recycling bin even more of the things that
Sarah, our oldest daughter, and Francis, her husband left in the house when
they 7 weeks ago moved to Australia with their 2.5-year-old twins, Lily and
Jessica. Afterwards I find about 30 of my books that I have read and enjoyed,
but which I will not read again. These books also we can donate to one of the
many shops run by charities such as Oxfam.
I send Sarah an email. I ask her about what was Francis's response to
Phil's offer. Phil, a friend or relative of Bob, our neighbor, wants to buy
Francis's car which for 7 weeks has stood in front of our house, although Phil
unfortunately offers only about 60% of the price that Francis asked. My
Goodness!
I think that Lois had a good idea when she decided to take the initiative
to begin to discard some of the many things Francis left with us. We feel that
if we had asked for his permission, he would have said that he would rather
have that we "for the moment" keep everything which he left.
Sarah said yesterday on the phone that she is currently very busy. She
still works for her former firm in England, and British companies must complete
their tax returns before the end of January. But in February, Sarah must find a
job in Perth as accountant.
Lois and I'd like to visit them from September to November. But I think
Francis is very keen that we visit the family from March to May, or April to
June. We miss much Sarah and Francis and their twins, Lily and Jessica, and we
long to see them again. But we have no illusions - if we visit them in the
spring, we will have two full-time jobs as childminders, which will be fun but
also very very tiring, exhausting - I know that for sure! I sense that Francis
would like to take a break from child care and work online or surf the web
instead. Sarah will have just gotten a new job, and will not be able to take
days off. And the family will not be able to afford yet to send the twins to a
professional childminder for a couple of days a week - that's why Lois and I
would both have a full time job in child care! My Goodness!
11:00 I go to bed and I take a short nap - zzzzz !!! I am currently in the
process of conducting an experiment and take a nap in the late morning, instead
of early afternoon. So far, the experiment has gone very well - hurray!
12:00 I hurry out to the kitchen to prepare lunch: sausages, baked beans
and sandwiches - yumyum!
14:00 I feel sleepy again, I go back to bed and take me even one short nap
- zzzz !!! My goodness, my experiment in bringing forward my nap is not going
that well - that is both certain and sure !!!
15:00 I get up and relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.
16:25 Lois comes home and we drink another cup of tea .... oh dear !!!
