18:30 We have dinner and spend the rest of the evening watching TV. They show "Call the Midwife," a drama series, which is about a group of midwives who worked in the 1960s in Poplar, a small suburb of London. Lois loves this series, but for my part I do not care for it that much, so I read a few pages of my Danish novel, "Klinkevals".

21:00 Lois sends an email to Josie, our 9-year-old grandchild in Copenhagen. We want to congratulate her on her team's victory on Saturday when they took part in a swimming event in Gladsaxe swimming pool.

Alison, our oldest daughter - Josie's mother - has not been that well for a few days. She has had a bad cough and a little fever - my goodness, poor Alison. Get well soon, dear daughter!

21:30 We see a sitcom, "Cuckoo", a hilarious sitcom on BBC iPlayer.

It's a bit of a shock to see a new British sitcom that actually is funny and well played - my goodness! For the most part we see nowadays only American sitcoms that make us laugh!

The sitcom's action unfolds in Lichfield, a small town in central England. Greg Davies plays Ken, a middle-aged husband who lies to his wife, Lorna (Helen Baxendale), about having had a vasectomy, which results in an unplanned pregnancy.

But Lorna takes revenge after the baby is born. She gets promoted to chief and it is Ken who must take paternity leave and look after the baby, also get up at night if the baby starts crying - my goodness, poor Ken !!!

Laura gets promoted to chief and it is Ken who must take care of the baby and get up if it cries at night - my goodness, a pity for Ken, but hurrah for Laura !!!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzz !!!!

04:00 I get up early and take a look at the internet.

09:00 We go to our neighbors' house. For 6 weeks we have looked after Stephen and Frances's house while they have been traveling in New Zealand. We have picked up the mail and watered the indoor flowers, and the vegetables in the greenhouse and so on.

We check on the house, to be sure that everything is in order. They are coming back this morning - finally, we no longer have to remember to pop in there - hurrah!

We pop into the local medical clinic. I ask to be prescribed 16 weeks of blood pressure pills instead of the usual 8-week package, so I do not run out of them when we are in Australia.

10:00 I start writing 100 English sentences, which I will get our Danish group members to translate into Danish at the group's next meeting, which will take place on March 10 at our place - I'm so demanding ha ha ha!

Lois continues to do a little research on her family tree. She hopes to be finished this week with her story about the family Cox (her mother's family) so she can take a copy with her to Australia when we visit our youngest daughter, Sarah, and her husband, Francis, and their 2 and a half-year-old twins, Lily and Jessica.

12:30 We eat lunch and afterwards I go to bed and take a long nap - zzzzzz !!!!

15:00 I get up and we relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.

Vi glider over i søvnen – zzzzz!

Jeg spiser to stykke toast og tager to Ibuprofen tabletter.

17:00 I'm looking at Facebook and I see that our eldest granddaughter in Copenhagen, Josie, together with her team have just won the swimming relay in Gladsaxe-swimming pool - hurrah! Our son-in-law, Ed, says that Josie's role was a crucial element in the team's victory - hurrah, go Josie!

18:00 We have dinner and then spend the evening watching TV and listening to the radio.

They show two interesting documentaries on BBC4. The first is about a trip through the south of France, which a married couple, Timothy West and Prunella Scales, the famous actors, take on the famous Canal du Midi by barge. This canal was the world's first (and was built almost a century before the first canals in the UK). The French authorities wanted to get boats and small ships to travel between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic without being attacked by the pirates who lived in the Straits of Gibraltar - my goodness, what a world!

The second documentary is about the villages in the county of Aberdeenshire, in north-west Scotland. The program's presenter is Penelope Keith, the famous actress.

21:00 They show the 5th and 6th episodes of "Trapped", the dark Scandinavian crime series, but Lois does not care for it that much, so I record it on vhs, and we listen to the radio instead; old comedies from the 1990s. We drift into sleep - zzzz! We are growing old - of that, there is no doubt !!!

22:00 We wake up and go to bed - zzzz (again) !!!

4:00 I get up early and take a look at the internet. I see that Sarah, our youngest daughter, Francis, her husband, and their 2 and a half year old twins, continue their road trip along the coast north of Perth. They drove through the desert to the city of Denham (population of 607 residents!), located in Shark Bay (Shark Bay) - my goodness! Be careful when you swim in the ocean, folks !!!!

view from the campsite where Sarah is staying

06:00 I have a painful lower back today - darn! I eat two pieces of toast and take two ibuprofen tablets.

8:00 I eat breakfast and start seeing the 5th episode of "Trapped", the dark Scandinavian crime fiction series. The drama is even darker than normal because the avalanche has caused a power outage in the isolated Icelandic town - oh dear! It is even harder to identify the characters and distinguish all the men who wear beards - my goodness! Also the residents' mobile phones no longer work - bummer (again) ! Sigurdhur's father, who intentionally used an explosion to create an avalanche in a controlled manner, dies of injuries from it! Oh dear!

Sigurdhurs father, dies of injuries from the avalanche he started - oh dear!

Someone (perhaps his wife, whom he abuses) hits Mayor Hrofn in the head with a shovel, locks him in his shed, and sets fire to it.

Clannnnggggg !!! Someone hits Mayor Hrofn in the head with a shovel in his shed while he works at his desk !!!! But who is the attacker - his wife maybe ????

the mysterious attacker sets fire to the mayor's shed - oh dear!!!! Farewell and good-luck, Mr. Mayor !!!

The town's teenagers hold a wild party in the public swimming pool.

city teenagers hold a wild party in the dark swimming pool - such goings-on!

The ferry's Danish captain and his first officer try to recapture the two African sisters whom the deceased Lithuanian people-smuggler, Jonas, brought to Iceland on his van's back seat - oh dear! What a mess !!!!

It is interesting to see that the Icelandic people for the most part do not look very much like the typical Scandinavian people you see in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In many cases, they are not very tall and they tend to be more dark-haired. I have read that they have a lot of Celtic blood in their family trees. The Vikings had the habit of kidnapping Celtic women and bringing them to Iceland - oh, poor women !!!!

09:00 Lois gets up, but she has a problem with her sight - a striped spot in front of her eyes. She sits on the sofa and tries to relax. The problem disappears after 30 minutes, but she decides that it would be dangerous to drive to Tewkesbury today to attend her church's two services. She decides to see her Pride & Prejudice DVD instead - a wise decision!

My goodness, we are two old wrecks today - there is no doubt !!!!

13:00 We eat lunch and then I go to bed and take a long nap - zzzzz !!!!!

15:00 I get up and we relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.

16:00 I read some pages of my Danish novel, "Klinkevals". Simon has been released from the local mental hospital, where he lived for some years, and he is starting to get used to living at home again. He deals with the chores while his wife, Juliane, goes out to work every day. It's Juliane who calls the shots in this marriage - of that, there is no doubt !!!! Today Simon is visited by his former boss, "Thomsen", who urges him to resume his job at the printing works.

18:00 Lois unfortunately has a bad stomach for the moment, but we eat dinner as usual.

We start to watch a little television. They show the British Eurovision Song Contest. which is held every year to find Britain's representative to the Eurovision Song Contest. The host is Mel Giedroyc, whom we like, but it is soon clear that the audience is unduly excited and reacts a little fanatically to everything Mel says. The warm-up guy has done a good job - of that, there is no doubt !!!

We like Mel, but we cannot stand the audience, so we decide to listen to the radio instead: a concert broadcast directly from Nottingham's Royal Concert Hall. We are growing old - that is both certain and sure!!!!!

22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzz !!!

03:15 I get up early and take a look at the internet.

09:00 We have to be off. We drive to the local Sainsbury's supermarket to do the shopping. On the way we pop in at Waghornes, the local butcher, to buy meat and bread.

10:30 We get home and relax with a cup of coffee on the couch. We've moved two of our four armchairs from the living room into the dining room, which most of the day gets the sun's rays when it is not cloudy. There we are a little warmer - hurrah! And we can sit by the bay window and watch the world go by. We are growing old - of that, there is no doubt !!!

11:00 We go for a short walk in the neighborhood. We notch up 1.5 miles, 38 minutes, 137 calories, and the path rises altogether 33 feet. Our route: Prestburyvej, New Barn Lane, and back again via Welland Lodgevej.
It is 11am and we go for a short walk in the neighborhood

On the way home we walk past the former Starvehall Farm and the large field where horses once stood all day. We are sad at the thought that in a few months this field will be filled with ugly modern houses - boo!
We take pictures of each other at the side of the large field, which in a few months will be filled with ugly modern houses - bummer !!!!

12:30 We eat lunch and then I go to bed and take a long nap - zzzzz !!!!

15:00 I get up and we relax with a cup of tea on the sofa.

16:00 We look at Facebook. We see that Josie, one of our three grandchildren in Copenhagen, is taking part in a swimming event today at Gladsaxe-swimming baths. Ed, our son-in-law, put a photo on his Facebook page, showing the swimming pool and his two other children, Rosalind and Isaac. Go Josie!

Tv-veteranen Savile var i en årrække programleder for de populære tv-shows "Top of the Pops" og "Jim'll Fix It".

De viser ”Ugly House to Lovely House”. Unødvendigt at sige, at udestuen ser forfærdelig ud!!!

The Brewery-indkøbscentret på Højgade (Lower High Street): arbejdet går fremad!

The Brewery-indkøbscentret – arkitektens vision

17:00 We have not heard much from our youngest daughter, Sarah, in the last few days and we did not know if it was because she and her husband, Francis, were very busy. But I log into Facebook and I see that a few days ago they decided to take a ride in the car (plus trailer) out along the coast, north of Perth. The trip so far has been very exciting: the first day they experienced a forest fire, the second day a flat battery on the car in a deserted place, the third day they had to rush to the emergency room with Lily, one of their 2 and a half year old twins (this "emergency room" consisted of a cabin - my God!), but Lily is doing well now, thank God. My God (again) - what a holiday!

the family's Land Rover and trailer

18:30 We have dinner and then we listen to radio. We hear an interesting radio program about the Jimmy Savile affair.

The late Jimmy Savile is suspected of having committed hundreds of crimes, including many many rapes. Television veteran Savile was for a number of years the program presenter for the popular TV shows "Top of the Pops" and "Jim'll Fix It". He died in 2011 aged 84. Over 80 percent of the victims were underage girls.

It's strange to think that he escaped punishment and for so many years cultivated an image of a religious idealist who was dedicated to the welfare of the young and the sick. Most people did not know about his crimes, and the few people who knew or suspected, were afraid to report him, for fear that no one would believe them. In addition, some of his male colleagues in the 1960s, the 1970s, thought that it was okay to behave like that.

19:00 We see a little television. They show "Ugly House to Lovely House". Lois and I find it amusing to see modern architects "upgrade" old-fashioned houses. Their work results in enormous windows (ie lack of privacy), a lack of interior walls, long low-back sofas against the walls, etc., so the house starts to look like a miniature office-building - my goodness! The architect in this episode, Greg Blee, is very fond of "shards", ie buildings that look like huge fragments - oh dear! - shaped like The Shard in London, a 95-storey skyscraper), so he decides to design a conservatory in the form of a huge fragment and the house owners get it built on. Needless to say that the conservatory looks horrible!!! In our view, the program should rather be called "Lovely House to Ugly House" - my goodness!

Needless to say the new conservatory looks horrible !!!

22:00 We go to bed. I read six pages of my bedtime book, "William Pitt the Younger" by William Hague, before I drift into dreamland - zzzzz !!!!!

3:45 I get up early and take a look at the internet.

09:30 We have to be off. We take a bus into the city center to buy a few things: cheap birthday cards in Marks & Spencer, yoghurt powder in Holland & Barrett, a tea strainer and a sink strainer in Wilkinsons. We pop into Drukkers and drink a cup of coffee and eat a piece of cake - yummy!!!!!!

We look around the Brewery Mall, which is currently being built, developed and expanded between Højgade (Lower High Street) and Swindonvej.

The Brewery Mall at Højgade (Lower High Street): work progresses!
