Tunguska-eksplosionen (Siberien, 1908)

Barringer-krateret (Arizona, for 50.000 år siden)

Chicxulub-krateret (Mexico, for 65 millioner år siden)

English translation
18:15 We eat dinner. Afterward, Lois must be away. There is a church service taking place tonight in Hatherley, which she wants to attend.

19:00 I see a bit of television. They show an interesting documentary about meteors and meteorites. Meteorites are fragments of asteroids which form the remains of the nebula that created the solar system 4.6 billion years ago.

The program's host, Iain Stewart visits the Natural History Museum in London, where they keep thousands of meteorites. Stewart sees a meteorite, which is approximately 4.6 billion years old - my goodness!

We also see again and again the videos that local people took in Chelyabinsk, when a meteorite exploded in 2013 at an altitude of 15-20 km above the city, which is located near the Ural Mountains.

The Chelyabinsk-meteor (2013) draws closer - oh dear!

In addition, we see other places where meteorites in the past hit the ground or the earth's atmosphere: Tunguska Event (Siberia, 1908), Barringer Crater (Arizona, 50,000 years ago) and Chicxulub crater (Mexico, 65 million years ago) - the biggest explosion, which according to experts destroyed the dinosaurs - oh dear!

For the most part asteroids and meteorites keep the same orbit for millions of years, but now and then an asteroid changes orbit, either abruptly because of a collision, or very very very gradually due to photons of sunlight hitting the asteroid. It is always theoretically possible that the asteroid's new course can send it on a collision course towards Earth, today, tomorrow, or in thousands of years time, etc. - my goodness! What a crazy universe we live in!

Fortunately, the experts found out that in the next 100 years there is no risk of collision between Earth and an asteroid or other large object. My Goodness! When I hear this, I laugh out of relief! The problem is that the smaller meteorites that we cannot see, can also cause a lot of damage, as in Chelyabinsk - oh dear !!!!

Microscopic meteorites (mostly dust from asteroids) are hitting the ground all the time, but we do not notice them. Earth grows every year by 40,000 tons - my goodness! What a mess!

21:00 I continue to watch TV. They show the American police comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and in this episode, Peralta and Diaz work with two Swedish detectives to find out who stole valuable jewelry from a museum in Stockholm.

My goodness! Why do Danes and Swedes not get on well with each other? !!!!

22:00 Lois comes home and we go to bed - zzzzz !!!!

4:30 I get up early and take a look on the internet.

10:00 We go for a short walk in the neighborhood (1.3 miles, 31 minutes, 121 calories). Our route: Prestbury road (via the local sports ground) down to Morrisons mini-supermarket (where we pop in and buy a few things), and back again.

The time is 10am and we go for a short walk in the neighborhood through the local sports ground

On the way we walk over the local sports ground. We are sad at the thought that in a few months there will be hundreds of ugly modern houses here - bummer !!!!

12:00 We decide that we will try to find an Australian married couple or an Australian family who want to live in our house while we are away from home. There is a facebook group consisting of members of Lois's church in Britain and Australia, who are willing to offer their homes temporarily to other members or stay in another member's house while they are away from home. But first, Lois has to register on Facebook. I set up her account, with (hopefully) 5 friends: Alison, Ed, Sarah, Francis and me. She does not want to expand her circle of friends outside of our little family. How wise !!!

12:30 We have three office chairs, but we need only one. We have decided to provide two chairs to a local charity. One of the organization's representatives comes to retrieve the two black chairs. In future, we will use our son-in-law, Francis's chair when we use the computer in the dining room - hurray!

13:00 We eat lunch. Afterwards I go to bed and I take a long nap -zzzzzzz !!!!!

15:00 I get up and we relax with a cup of tea and a piece of bread with homemade jam - yummy!!!!
