fjernsyn. De viser ”Top of the Pops”, et gamle afsnit, som Lois og jeg først så
i juli 1982.
at gruppen besluttede at udsende ”Iko Iko”.
vanvid!

” Talkin' 'bout, Hanoi Hannah,
Hanoi Hannah! I-ko, I-ko, un-day
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né, jock-a-mo fee na-né”
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né, jock-a-mo fee na-né”
[min parodiske tekst]
rigtigt kapitalistisk samfund – hurra!
"Hanoi Hannah" døde også et par
uger siden
22:00 Vi går i
seng – zzzzz !!!!!
morgenmad.
10:00 Vi går
ud i baghave for at arbejde lidt.
vores have og Bobs have. Lois begynder at ordne drivhuset.
12:30 Vi
spiser frokost.
Australien for 11 måneder siden.
15:30 Jeg står op og vi slapper af med en kop te på
sofaen.
English translation
18:00 We eat dinner and then
spend the evening watching TV. They show "Top of the Pops", an old episode that Lois and I first saw in
July 1982.
I am quite sure that Lois and I
must have been very distracted when we first saw this program in 1982. Only six
weeks later, we had to close the house's doors and windows and move to the
United States for three years.
The music is mostly a load of
junk, including a pisspoor version of "Happy Talk", interpreted by
"Captain Sensible", a song which for some reason had shot
to the top of the charts. It seems that many famous singers and groups issued
mediocre singles in the summer of 1984. The show was saved at the last minute
by Natasha England, who sang a new version of the old song "Iko Iko".
It is a shame that it was then in
vogue among female singers to look sour and sulky, and have a moody expression
on the face. Her dance style was not very exciting - she liked to dance dressed
in white, expose a lot of flesh and move a white fan back and forth. My
goodness - some missed opportunities here - I have no doubt of that !!!
Natasha's dance style - not very
exciting, unfortunately!
21:00 It's nice to be able to
turn off the TV and listen to some radio, an interesting program called
"The Last Word", which I recorded earlier in the day on vhs.
We happen to like hearing this
program because we always like to find out if anyone in the past 1-2 weeks has
died or not. It turns out that only 5 people died - hurrah, so do not panic! I
have noticed that most weeks there are only about 5 deaths.
Sadly Joan Marie Johnson died a
few weeks ago, aged 72 (oh dear - only 2 years older than me !!!). She was one
of the three singers in the group Dixie Cups that released "Iko Iko"
in the 1960s, and was the first American group to dethrone the Beatles from
number 1 in the US charts.
We hear Joan Marie's voice in an
old radio interview. She says it was a coincidence that the group decided to
release "Iko Iko". The three singers were starting to record an
album, and they took a short break between tracks. Session musicians popped out of the studio for a while, and the three girls were alone. They started to
beat a rhythm out on the back of the chairs with drumsticks and soda bottles,
and this turned into the start of their later version of "Iko Iko".
My goodness, what madness!

"Talkin '' bout, Hanoi Hannah, Hanoi
Hannah! I-ko, I-ko, un-day
Jock-a-mo fee-no ai na-né, Jock-a-mo fee

[my parody lyrics!]
It is strange that "Hanoi
Hannah" was also among the five people who died in the past 2 weeks. She
was 85 years old. She is known to have participated in propaganda broadcasts in
the Vietnam war, although it turns out that she was really quite a sweet person
who was very interested in American culture and society and so on. It is
without doubt a pity that North Vietnam ended up winning the war, but it is
comforting to remember that it later lost the larger war and became a real
capitalist society - hurrah!
Hanoi Hannah also died a few weeks ago
22:00 We go to bed - zzzz !!!!!
05:00 I get up early and do one
of my routine Danish vocabulary tests. Afterwards, I make two cups of tea and
bring them up to our bedroom. I creep back in our bed and we drink the tea. A
bit later, we get up and eat breakfast.
10:00 We go out in the backyard
to work a little. I begin to cut the hedge between our garden and Bob's garden.
Lois starts to tidy up the greenhouse.
12:30 We eat lunch. Afterwards I
go to bed and take a gigantic afternoon nap - zzzzzz !! Lois continues to tidy up the
greenhouse, which has become a total mess, with many toys that Sarah's twins (our
grandchildren Lily and Jessica) loved to amuse themselves with before the
family moved to Australia 11 months ago.
15:30 I get up and we relax with
a cup of tea on the sofa.
