dage.
Jeg mindes en gammel sort-og-hvid film, ”The First of the Few”, der
Viktoria ønsker, at Albert,
wow, hun bliver utrolig begejstret! Jenna Coleman ser ganske sexet ud i rollen
16:00 Solen skinner.
English translation
17:00 I jump up on my exercise bike and I ride 6 miles (10 km) -
hurrah! Now I am sure that I can get well again. Unfortunately, I have a little
pain in the joints, as I jump down - damn! But perhaps it should be expected -
I have not used my exercise bike for seven days. I've been naughty - no doubt
about it !!!
While I cycle, I grab my smartphone
and hear a collection of "the 15 best folk songs" on YouTube. It
turns out that the songs are not folk songs, but just melodic pop songs or
ballads, cover-versions that are sung by singers whose mother tongue is not
English - oh dear! But it is quite pleasant to listen to it. "Green
Fields" sung by "The Brothers Four" is a song I have not heard
for 56 years - my goodness, I am growing old, I am sure !!
Also David Gates's
"If", which I recall in Telly Savalas's pitiful version that shot to
the top of the UK charts in March 1975, when we were expecting our first child
(Alison). "It would be the end of the world, the stars would go out one by
one, and you and I would simply fly away."
Our first child, Alison, who now lives
650 miles away from us, in Copenhagen
To fly away is the best image of
dying, I think. It is good to imagine that the soul escapes the body and flies
away through the window, into the air, freed from the usual aches and other
annoying things / people etc !!! Although this does not really happen when we
die, it is very comforting to imagine it - no doubt about that !!!!
I remember an old black-and-white
film, "The First of the Few," which was about RJ Mitchell, who
developed the Spitfire fighter aircraft in the 1930s. He gets sick and dies
unfortunately as a fairly young man (42 years). He is confined to an armchair.
His nurse brings him a glass of milk and leaves him a few minutes. We see his
soul leave his body and fly out of the window and up into the air, where the
Royal Air Force is in the process of testing Mitchell’s fighter. His glass of
milk falls to the floor where the nurse finds it when she comes back a few
minutes later. My God! How touching !!!
Fun fact: "If," written
by David Gates, is the shortest song title that has ever topped the UK charts –
my god, George Harrison missed out on a great triumph when he named his song
"I, Me, Mine" instead of just "I" - I know that for sure!
18:15 We have dinner and spend
the evening watching a little television. They show "Victoria", which
is about the young queen in her early years on the throne.
Victoria soon becomes pregnant,
despite her unconventional method of contraception (jumping up and down right
away). All are apparently afraid that she might die during childbirth (a very
dangerous process at the time), especially if the child survives.
But who will be the child's
regent in this case? Victoria wants Albert, her husband, to assume the role, but
many MPs do not like him because he is German. But Albert and Robert Peel, the
Tory Party leader, become firm friends, and Peel promises that his party will
vouch for Albert as regent. Both Peel and Albert have a very modern way of
thinking and are keen to develop Britain's new rail system.
Victoria is not fond of the
railroad to begin with, but as soon as she rides on a train, it turns her
wildly on right away - wow, she gets incredibly excited! Jenna Coleman looks
quite sexy in the role of the young queen, especially when she puts her little
black bonnet on to travel in northern England and see something of the
country's industry - wow (again)! I must admit that it is possible to see a
glimpse of the real queen's beauty in some of her earliest stamps.
The young queen's beauty, as seen in some
of her earliest stamps
22:00 We go to bed - zzzzzz !!!!
05:00 I wake up but I stay lying
in bed. But it is clear that Lois has not slept well - poor woman! I get up so
she can try to go back to sleep without me disturbing her.
08:15 I hurry into the kitchen
and make two cups of tea. I bring them up to our bedroom and crawl back into
our bed.
09:00 We take a shower and
afterwards we eat breakfast.
10:30 We go out and weed a
little, me in the vegetable garden, Lois in the flowerbeds. After an hour, we
relax with a cup of coffee on the terrace.
12:30 We eat lunch. While we eat,
we see a little television. They show an interesting documentary about meat -
how much meat we should eat and is it dangerous?
The program recommends us of
course to eat more chicken and avoid eating too much red meat and processed
meat, to reduce the chances of contracting cancer or heart disease - oh dear!
They also say that it is better to eat meat offal (e.g., liver, kidney, heart,
etc.) than the more popular types of meat.
The most terrible thing is that
the government recommends that we do not eat more than 2.5 ounces (70g) of red
meat and processed meat a day - oh dear! Lois rushes into the kitchen and
weighs the lamb-steaks we like to eat. Each steak weighs 8.5 ounces - help!
Lois says that if we divide each steak into 4 pieces (each piece would then
weigh 2,1 ounces), then they will be so small that we could hardly find them on
the plate - my god!
It is interesting that the
government does not fix any limit to eating white meat - hurrah! It turns out
that there is not much difference between cheap supermarket chicken, organic
chicken, and free-range chicken when it comes to health. But it is surprising
that corn fed chicken is the worst choice by a small margin - my goodness, what
a crazy world we live in !!!!
13:30 We go to bed for a few
hours.
16:00 The sun is shining. We get
up and relaxing with a cup of tea on the terrace.
